I am going to start developing a new website and decided to work on a new name. Unfortunately there are a lot of good names that are already taken and some that I don't want......HOIwx (Heart of Illinois Wx) WHOI-TV has that....Land of Lincoln WX (LOLwx)...NO.....Circle City Weather (CCWx) would let people think I am in Indy......and many others that just don't work. This is the twin cities of the midwest..Bloomington/Normal (even though Minneapolis/St. Paul claim that title too). We are home to State Farm Corporate, have a Mitsubishi car plant, and produce the best taste treat in the US...BeerNuts. I was thinking either www.twincitywx.com or www.twincityweather.com . Which one do you think would be best ? Or do you have a suggestion ? Look on the map first or google the town.

If you use something like Google Analytics to capture your webstats, take a look at the most popular keywords and keyword combinations. You might see something catchy there to use as your name and that also would help drive folks to your site.

Hi Garth,
No matter what the precedence is, I think anyone not from your area will always assume that twin cities is Minneapolis/St Paul. I'm reasonably close, and have been to Bloomington and never heard it referred to as the twin cities. You might be fighting an uphill battle.
That aside, I like twincitiesweather better, as a lot of folks that are not particularly weather enthusiasts don't equate WX with weather.
My two cents, Steve

I tend to agree if someone googles twin cities or twin cities weather, it will take them to MN.
Could you use Normal Weather? (sounds like a perfect day every day!)
Perhaps McLean County weather?

Thanks for the 2 cents ! My station is in Bloomington and the university station is in Normal. There are several stations around with me on the SE, one almost center of town, the university station on the north (all Davis's) and a couple more out in the country. I am working with a homeowner straight west that might host a station for me if I pick up a small part of their Comcast net cost. I thought of a web site pointing to all the stations as well as my own and call it County Observers of Weather (C.O.W.S.) but that only descended into silliness. "The COW says rain tomorrow...." and such like that.
One question that did get answered is the use of weather vs wx.....

I agree with Steve to use weather instead of WX. I think you will get more hits on your site when viewers are searching. I told my friends to look at a sidebar item called WX reports and they all asked me what does WX stand for. Basically people that are not into the weather like us don't know what it is and won't use it when searching.

I tend to prefer something with the use of "Normal" too. Good luck Mike

It really depends on who your target cities are. Besides Bloomington/Normal there is also Champaign, Peoria, Decatur, and Springfield. If the whole general area is your target then you have to go along the lines of Central Illinois Weather Center, or something like that. However, you seem to talk up Bloomington/Normal with the large corporations that are located there so may be you want to keep it local. Once you decide what geographic area is your target then make the decision from that.

Garth, When I was deciding a domain for my site somdweather.com, I asked several people about somdwx.com.. You woudn't believe how many people didn't know what wx stood for..well that pretty much settled that question - somdweather.com
