midland HH54VP

I received a Midland weather radio, model HH54VP, last Christmas as a gift.  It uses 3 AA batteries and an AC adapter, not rechargeable.

I have just begun to use it and have followed setup instructions exactly, but it will not send any alerts.  The county code is correct for my area.  Storm warnings were out the other day but I didn’t receive any on the portable.  Also when I press snooze, I do get the weather report with no problem.  Just no alerts of any kind. I have it on a table near a window.  I also have a Midland WR-100 and it works fine, alerts come thru.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be?  Since it was a gift the receipt is long gone, so returning is not an option.
