Three questions: What version of VWS are you running? Next, was it running ok before? What ops system was it running on when it worked? I'm assuming you're now on Windows 7.

I've been running Win 7, VWS V14.01 p46 for most of a year now with no problems.

What kind of failure are you getting with VWS? Your posts don't really indicate whether it is the loss of a connection to your weather station or if it's actually VWS itself that is failing. Give us the symptoms and anything else that may help in troubleshooting the problem. Also, what brand and model of weather station do you have  and how is it connected to your computer (Serial port, USB, etc)?

There you go, she's a keeper. Now that I think back, I had that problem when I put in the new PC but had conveniently forgot about it. In my case I'm on it enough it didn't show up for about 6 months until I left town (naturally).

Folks,

I, too, have been having trouble with AWS V14.01 P45 on my high-end Dell P690 workstation.  It will run for an hour or two, at which point it 1) hangs-up as it stops allowing interaction with the user (double-clicking the tray icon does nothing) and 2) it stops updating Weather Underground.

Before I tried any diagnostics, myself, I started an online chat with tech support at Ambient.  I was connected to someone named "Ed" who flabbergasted me by saying that as none of the other 100,000 plus users had this problem, there must be no problem and, in any case, how can one be expected to deal with such problems?  I then gave him a lecture regarding end users' expectations for software to work, with which he informed me that not only does he own Ambient Weather, but he wrote the program.  He offered me a full refund which, of course, would leave me with no software for updating Weather Underground.

So, folks, can anyone recommend a replacement for AWS which will update Weather Underground in rapid fire mode?

Meanwhile, I believe I found the problem.  As I have a very high-speed, always-on connection (50 megabits per second down, 5 megabits per second up) and a computer with power to spare, I set the update interval to two seconds.  It is my working theory (so far unproven) that it was taking more than two seconds to upload two seconds worth of data and that AWS was getting backed-up on its work queue.  As a circumvention, I changed the rapid fire update interval from two- to five seconds and AWS stayed-up overnight for the first time since I installed it.  You would think that Ed would have been able to suggest this, wouldn't you?

The moral: People who don't know how to debug their programs should offer same for retail sale.

Regards,
Jeff Brodio
