No signal from the ISS

How did you determine this?  i.e., when you pressed the transmitter pushbutton, the LED didn't blink?  Or what?

If you followed all of the troubleshooting steps on Page 12 of the ISS manual, then calling Davis is the next step.

Well, it should still be under warranty.

I left the battery out all night, ISS in dark basement so nothing from the solar panel, Put the battery back in this afternoon and it came back to life. I called Davis and they said it was locked up from being to close to my ham radio antennas.  First problem since November will try it again.

Has it been in proximity to those same ham antennae?

Presumably, the frequencies used and other variables of ham radio have changed rather continually.  The ISS has both analog and digital functions, and any "lock up" from external RF is likely to seem somewhat random, and in fact may never happen to your Vue again.

My ISS and anemometer have been within 15 feet or so of my HF, VHF & UHF ham antennas for 6+ years and I've never had a problem with my VP2. Unless you are running full legal power, and the wx equipment is only a few feet away, I don't buy their explanation. There are many VP2's mounted on ham towers running full power without any problems that I have heard of. Perhaps the Vue is built differently and is more susceptible to stray RF though...

The Vue and VP2 are certainly constructed differently.  But perhaps if you describe your installation and nearby antennas, and shepsvettes describes the same thing, then we could get some idea of comparative proximity.

Of course, shepsvettes is describing one failure in 8 months, and there are lots of other variables also, and maybe it's not RF ... and maybe ...

I think Davis is blowing sunshine on their explanation.

I think Davis is blowing sunshine on their explanation.

Perhaps so.  What's your explanation?  The Vue clearly "locked up", and "unlocked" after all power was drained.

I have no personal opinion as to why/how it "locked up", so without some alternative explanation, I can't personally declare anything about Davis' explanation.

So, please propose an explanation for the reported events.

I don't wanna get in between dalecoy and bushman. I just want to mention that, in my experience, almost anything digital can lock up or be made to lock up. My smartphone has a couple of times. A lot of it has to do with the quality of design and assembly, and a lot with random circumstance.

Before I switched to wireless, my wired VP2 ISS locked up a couple of times due to EMP from close lightning. Unplugging and replugging the cable fixed it.

Lightning locked my wireless VP 1 up tight once too.  With all the computerization now even home appliances and TVs need a reboot on occasion.  How often it happens is more of an indicator of a possible problem then the symptom itself.

I have also had the lockup problems. I have two Vantage Views systems here, one on the tower, on on a lower roof.

This morning, the older Vue console stopped receiving, then an hour later the new on locked up. I have not been on the air in 2 days.

I had to install a normally closed mag switch on the tower unit. This way I use a telescoping probe to drop a magnet  in, This act as if the battery was removed

I just purchased another vantage sending unit. I am going to ferrite the leads in side and see if this helps.

As someone else here said the first 6 months were fine.
