Hello,
I am new to the forum and Davis software in general. My campus recently purchased a unit, a data logger, and weather link. I have weather link successfully updating our website (wb.psu.edu/weather). However, I don’t see an option to automate the text export wizard. I would like to post historical data to the website in a text format. I would like the data in a .txt or similar format, unaltered, and tab or comma delimited.
I know I can generate the file manually by running an export but I was hoping someone would have a way to script or automate this process. If I can write the file to the local computer, I can write my own script to upload it to our webserver. Thanks!
Jeff

Define "historical weather". You can use any of the Davis WL HTML "tags" with an historical bent via custom .htx file. You would then schedule this using WL's Internet connection upload function.

Tags are a quasi-real-time thing, and I'm not sure that's what jdc308 is asking for. jdc308, could you provide an example of what you would like the "historical data to the website in a text format" to look like?

As mentioned, you can schedule weatherlink to upload the NOAA reports and use Ken's program to display them on your web site.

I'm sure you understand that you didn't correctly quote my statement. And I'm sure you understand tags. jdc308 can let us both know if tags accomplish what is wanted.

@jdc308: Don't know whether or not you're following the gist of these replies, but the broad answer is that certain specific text uploads such as the NOAA reports are possible automatically with Weatherlink, but there isn't a comprehensive automatic text upload facility. So, for example, it's not easily possible to automate the 'export to text' feature in Browse mode. ('easily' because in principle you can do most things with some custom programming, but it's not a standard feature).
Therefore you need to spell out in more detail what you want to do and the time period** involved and then people can give a more specific answer.
** It's easy to get fully detailed text data covering the past 7 days uploaded automatically because this is provided by a built-in function, but longer periods are in the range much more tricky to impossible. But certain specific items of historic data (eg daily/monthly summary values) are accessible via the tag mechanism.

PSU finally has a weather station! Does this station have anything to do with the PSU Department of Meteorology?

Here's the link to the PSU main campus, Meteorology Dept. Walker Building Site http://climate.met.psu.edu/realtime/walker/walker.htmlLooks like Jeff is at the Wilkes-Barre campus I notice a link at the bottom of the page to "historical text" 5 minute data dump of the past two days. ** Jeff, maybe you should talk to someone at Main Campus if that's the type of listing you're looking for.

I noticed it was a different campus, just curious if the station was maybe a part of the met program.

Wow! Thanks to everyone for the quick and numerous responses. Let me see if I can answer everyones questions: 1) YES! PSU has a weather station. I am at the PSU Wilkes-Barre campus. (wb.psu.edu) 2) It was donated (paid for) by a generous faculty member. 3) I work in IT so much of the data that the station records is Greek to me. I would like to post it in a raw unaltered form. 4) The Walker weather station does this: http://climate.met.psu.edu/realtime/walker/walker.html However, it only maintains a 5 minute archive. I read through Davis documentation and it seems that the downld02.txt file (the one linked on the walker page), is auto generated and uploaded. Unfortunately, it is overwritten with new data. My end goal would be to generate something just like the downld02.txt file but maybe list them by month or quarter so that students can download the data set they are interested in and analyze them. Thanks again, Jeff

I should add that as an alternative to a text export, a SQl (MySQL or MsSQL) would also be fine.

Clearly tags won't (easily) work for what you want. As Bushman indicated, jruys' service or the underlying code may be very helpful. My end goal would be to generate something just like the downld02.txt file but maybe list them by month or quarter so that students can download the data set they are interested in and analyze them.
... perhaps a script the runs at the end of each month, and renames/archives that file?
