Is that a derecho headed across OH? It sure looks like it could be one to me.

We had 60+ mph winds out of that. Fort Wayne IN had 91 mph at their airport. Lots of wind damage from here to the Ohio state line.

That's beautiful! Not sure if it is a derecho. Hey Mark if you're out there change your webcam to the west so I can watch that roll in. Man that has to be a great sight.

We've had a lot of wind damage in Ohio today. It was all just south of me, but it really kept the local TV stations hopping.

Mark is getting slammed right now. It's probably a welcomed slam! High there was 101 degrees and now they are down to 68.

Yep, I caught that one. Wind was not too bad though. But I'm a little sheltered from that direction. My netbook is running on it's battery and the DSL modem off the generator right now. I'm curious to see how long it runs with all the programs except GRL3 loaded. Sorry guys, web cam is still in window by computer. One of these years I still hope to get it on the roof.

I guess I was right. Story herenever doubted you for a minute. Get any of that action down your way? No. I filled out a drought impact report for cocorahs yesterday. Grass is brown and crunchy. The ground is as hard as concrete. Having to water the garden every other day and potted plants twice a day. Rainfall for June is only 1.3 inches. Record temperature (103F) at this station yesterday and probably today and all weekend as well. It was 104.2 yeaterday. But it's a dry heat............ (27% humidity)

From what I've been reading about that storm it doesn't appear it would have helped with your drought even if it did hit. Member W Thomas' post mentioning it passing him and his signature banner showed "0.00" for rain count at time of the posting. I see lots of stories mentioning wind damage and lightning but nothing about rain or flooding.

I watched the Nationwide race from Kentucky last night. They said the green flag temp was 25F less than forecast, so I figured something must have come through. That temp change probably played havoc with their setups.

This derecho is one for the history books. Prior similar events have raked similar portions of the Midwest. Two examples are, 1980 http://www.spc.noaa.gov/misc/AbtDerechos/casepages/jul4-51980page.htm, and 1998 http://www.spc.noaa.gov/misc/AbtDerechos/casepages/may30-311998page.htm. Here is the NOAA main page on derechos, http://www.spc.noaa.gov/misc/AbtDerechos/derechofacts.htm#otherderechos, and you can see that most of the country east of the Rockies has been victimized and that July is by far the commonest month for them. We're getting an early start this year. One derecho that NOAA doesn't comment on is the only one I've endured, and it was back in 1993( http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/full/10.1175/1520-0434%281997%29012%3C0678%3ATAJNDA%3E2.0.CO%3B2. My old Heath ID-5001 recorded a gust of over 120 mph as the derecho passed. I was standing in my great room when the big gust hit, and the suction caused some crackling sounds in the roof overhead but no damage to my home. The Heath windspeed sensor uses a spinning plastic wheel painted with black strips that interrupts a continuously burning IR LED whose emissions are monitored by another solid state sensor opposite it. This system, while power intensive, gives quite reliable instantaneous readings in contrast to the Davis wireless technology I now use. The next morning I tried to jog along one of my usual neighborhood courses, and I had to take many detours around fallen limbs and trees on sidewalks and streets. There was some local news speculation that a tornado occurred, but all of the downed trees, billboards, and powerlines pointed east. There was no evidence of vertical vortices in the damage I later observed along I-80 all the way to Kearney. Those who directly experienced yesterday's event will remember it for the rest of their lives, and those adversely affected have my sympathy.

I just read where 500K customers in WV are without electricity. I wonder if farmtalk (Joseph) is one of them?

Well I'm back in the civilized world again after 26 hrs without power. Houses across the street are still dark. My netbook run 6 hrs on it's battery. The batteries must have died sometime today in the remote terminal as I lost all phone and DSL internet until the power came back at 7:30pm ET tonight. As typical it must have split and the worst winds went North and South of me. Much worse tree damage in town with trees on houses and cars. AEP still has 57% of its customers dark in the county. That is down from 70% this morning. Here's some links to the local newspaper and media: http://pix.10tv.com/ChannelGallery.aspx?c=843&page=1http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com/article/20120630/NEWS01/206300303/Residents-cleaning-up-after-Friday-s-stormhttp://www.lancastereaglegazette.com/article/20120630/NEWS01/120630004/Focus-turns-cleanup-hope-powerhttp://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/06/30/weather-updates.htmlhttp://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/06/29/hot-weather-will-hang-around.htmlhttp://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/06/30/summer-strike.htmlLocal electric utilities: https://www.aepohio.com/outages/http://www.southcentralpower.com/ow/ow_map.aspx

Ah yes, AEP. We have them here in NE Oklahoma (although we still call it PSO - Public Service Co of Oklahoma). Not really with AEP to be truthful...

He still hasn't checked in since the 29th. Hope it's just a power outage problem in his neck of the woods.

Second round tonight but the worst went further South this time. Houses across the street are still dark as are 15-20k others in the county yet. Current est is July 7 to have them all back on.
