It appears the development board prices don’t include the actual Electric Imp module which (based on the Endgadget interview video) will be $25. Still all of the prices are VERY attractive for what you get and will apparently begin shipping in early August, though I’d wager the initial supply will go fast.

Their development model seems to be a little like the mbed boards which also use ARM Cortex-M processors, in that you run the IDE from their site via browser with all the development SW on their server.
Also, it wasn’t clear to me if their required server services (apparently hosted on Amazon’s cloud) are included with the $25 Imp, or if there is an additional subscription cost.

Still, looks like a really terrific new way to easily and cheaply develop connected devices, and with a user programmable ARM Cortex-M3 built into the SD-Card form-factor Imp there should be more than ample horsepower for nearly any web-connected weather monitoring system. I’m anxious to see what additional libraries will be made available with their development tools to directly support peripheral devices and displays.

More details after emailing them:

Questioning if the Imps only talk to their servers....

Quote
They always talk to our servers. However, you can pass data through seamlessly to your own server with a RESTful api if you want to.

Question on the monthly web service charge.

Quote
A lot depends on the application. It can go down to $0.10/mo at big volume. We're working on the different plans right now, so nothing is set in stone yet - but it'll be attractive (more attractive than having to run your own service!)
