Anyone know why my wireless vp2 is registering wind speed (variable like it's actually working) without wind anemometer attached?

Make sure your console hasn't locked into another ISS within range in your area... could be either a VP2 or a Vue.  You may need to change to a different channel ID at your ISS and console.

Is it also showing wind direction?

yup. also showing direction... and i live outside of town with no neighbors.. not sure  how it could possibly be picking up another weather station unless it has a 5 mile range Wink

very odd.

I take that back. the direction is fixed.. not variable at all, so I guess it is not showing direction... just variable speed.

Wouldn't have guessed that based on your user ID.  d'oh!

What's your location?

If speed but no direction, it's almost certainly some sort of "jitter" or noise on the anemometer circuit.  Unless there is some sort of electrical-noise-producing or RF device near the ISS, I think you'll just have to ignore it.

Have you tried putting the console within a few feet of the ISS to see if that helps? Maybe the signal strength is creating odd behavior. Have you tried new batteries?

Might try going into the diagnostic mode and see receiver strength, packet data etc.

Don't suppose 'something else' is plugged into the anemometer socket?

There was a discussion here a while back about anemometer readings fluctuating on their own when there was no wind, then settling back down again all with no apparent cause. My station even did that once and I could never figure out why either. Some type of stray RF interference is probably a likely explanation. Notice any Black Helicopters overhead recently?
