Had a storm this afternoon that caused a power blip. My weather pc was off for a few hours. Now that it's back online, I'm having issues.

I have WL automatically download from the console 4 times daily. Each download is usually about 5% of the console capacity. Now, it wants to download 233 pages (46%). And when it does, it doesn't show the data beyond the last successful automatic download (1pm today).

Figuring I had some corrupted files, I tried copying over the .wlk files backed up from yesterday. No fix.  Then I copied over all the other files in the station folder and that did't fix it either.

The time stamp for the 2012-07.wlk changes but the size doesn't.  The file attributes haven't changed. But something happened when I lost power.

WL is reading from the console correctly. It's updating to WU, just not saving the data locally.

Any ideas?

This means that the real-time data is being read correctly, which is different from the logged/archive data being downloaded successfully. Difficult to know for sure at this stage of troubleshooting, but possibly the PC outage may have corrupted the data file on the PC, which is interfering with the archive download. Have you  tried creating a new station on the PC, purely for test purposes, and trying a download into that?

I did try a new station but the transfer attempt said no new data existed.

So I ended up taking the batteries out of the console.

Seems weird.  The console had been able to read from the ISS and communicate with the computer but it wasn’t storing it in memory.  When I powered-up the console and did the transfer the only new data was from the last successful auto download (1pm) to the power outage (3:20pm).  Lost the data from that point on.

Somehow the the console must have hung when the PC lost power.  It’s a USB connection.  Never really had an issue with it before.

Oh well.
It wasn't a lot but hate to lose data, especially when it involves rain totals.

Same storm yesterday also screwed up a router in my shop and the stereo I have connected to the TV.
All three devices were plugged into surge suppressors.
More storms coming this afternoon.  d'oh!

Sounds like you've got is sorted, which is obviously good. Yes, rebooting the console would have been the next step. The real-time and archive data storage by the console/logger are distinct processes and, for whatever reason, storing the archive data seems more sensitive to disruption than the real-time data stream. So it's not that uncommon for real-time data to continue to work even when eg a spike on the mains may have interfered with the storage of archive data.

I presume your console is only powered by batteries?

Was there a nearby lightning strike?  That can induce spikes in wiring that is not related to AC power (i.e., a surge suppressor won't help).

Yes, I've always used the console on batteries.
And yes there were a couple very close lighting strikes.  Both times, they set off the smoke alarms.

I'm guessing that the lightning strike caused the logger to get "confused" (locked up).  Removing the batteries and reinstalling them would reset the logger.  (since you are not also using AC power - otherwise you would have had to unplug that, too).

After the lightning strike, the logger wasn't saving data - until you reset it by what you did.
