I bought an Oregon WMR200 wireless station a year ago. It gave me problems from the first week and never could get it to record rainfall properly via whatever version software I used.  Software guys always wrote it off to the brand/model.

Anyway it totally died and I shipped it back to Oregon Scientific for replacement.  I am just going to Ebay it when it gets back.

I have decided I am going to buy a Davis to replace it.  I need totally wireless for my application.

Hoping it has an easier to read display than the WMR200 as well.

Comments on what to buy is appreciated.

I have a VP2 and it works great.  I got a VUE console to go on the comuter desk because it's a little smaller and I like it better (but that's just a personal preference thing).  I took the VP2 console down to my parent's house so they can read the station, too.

I finally gave up on the 200's and went to the Pro2, if the Vue is anything like the Pro, it's a quantum leap forward. Mine got a rain workout early this morning at one point it said "raining cats and dogs" on the ticker, and it was. Although I still have the original 100 on the roof as well and the rain gauge matched the Davis exactly. The biggest problem with the 200's was the weak receiver, the Davis technology is exactly opposite, I can't find a place it won't receive.

Steve congrats on the new station.
I would check the calibration on the rain gauge. I bought mine in 05 and never thought nothing about it until Chris, Sloweather) sent me the Novalynx calibrator. Found out it was under reporting by almost 30%. Now by this time I had it for almost 5 years so it could have needed calibration.
Since doing the calibration I also use a Cocorahs gauge that is mounted right next to the tipping gauge. For the most part they are spot on except with heavy rainfall which the Davis under reports.
You are going to love the Davis. Very Happy

I did pieces from here and there, the Pro2 with Solar sensor, shelf and secondary temp/hum station was just under $1K, then hauled it 1,000 miles S through MXN customs and onto the roof, absolutely love it. In fact, life without all the tinkering and worrying about the OS200 is almost boring.

I'll be here another year and then will probably return back N of the border, things are changing too much down here. I'll try to find someone to pass the 200, the weather station website etc and archive files to here and then look for some place, probably in TX, that needs an old weather watcher and his WeatherCat, at this point in life those are my only two responsibilities in life.

I live in a walled compound which is typical here and some times I can begin to imagine a tiny bit how the old lighthouse keepers must have felt - but just a tiny bit, they didn't have Google.

A walled compound?
Is it that bad?

I didn't mention the broken glass embedded in the top of the W wall - real attractive and useless. It's typically how houses are built here. Many, if not most, are wall to all on very small lots by our standards. I happened to stumble into an older estate I rent that has been remodeled so it's a bit unusual. It and the casita, or gate house, are on 3 lots so I have some room. The MXN culture is a very different experience, they live behind walls, some for protection, some for privacy and inside may be fabulous, outside can be a dump. The concept of "curb appeal" is totally alien, they have no idea what that is. If you're interested, here is a little slide show of the main house http://www.flickr.com/photos/47655945@N06/sets/72157623423091761/show/

Most of the real problems are up near the border, but we're beginning to feel it down here. Typically the really bad stuff is narco/cartel related, but there are always those out there who would like to have what I have in here even though it's nothing special. I tell people I wouldn't own a house here, things are too unstable, if things go bad now, I can grab the computer, the cat and be in Laredo in 12 hours and what I leave behind isn't that big a deal, only stuff. I came down here for 6 months to see if I liked it - nearly 5 years ago, I'll give it another year and then see how things are going. No matter where I go I'll miss the weather and especially this house, the thought of living again with solid walls and small holes called windows isn't that exciting.

Just for clarity, I presume the datalogger is at an extra cost if rrmccabe wants to connect to computer? (for both VP2 and Vue)

Yup, $393 just for the 6152, he didn't say anything about a logger. But add another $118 for the logger or get in touch with 'belfryboy', his is about $65 USD.      edit I forgot about SLOweather's interface ~$35

I can recommend the Vantage Vue. I paid £450.00 (UK) and that included the data logger (WeatherLink) and tripod. Not sure what the best deal you would get in the US though.

Great info guys.

Yes will need Datalogger for sure. My parents live a couple blocks away so I have my weather station available for them online to monitor.

When you say logger are you talking about a hardware add-on or just the software?  I bought additional software that worked great when the 200 wanted to.

Just tired of the OR quirks so am glad it failed totally !

Thanks much

Thanks for everyone's help. I bought a 6152 wireless today. Hoping this works out better than the WMR200 I had.

Just need to get the interface so I can connect it to my software.

So what is the difference in the interfaces as far as logging memory, etc.  This Davis will be connected to a PC at all times.
