Several times over the past two weeks my PC has stopped uploading data files to my website.
The cause is either a hung computer or hung internet connection. Either problem is easily remedied with a reboot. The biggest problem is that it is sometimes hours before I notice the problem.

Is there a script/program that could run on my website via cron that would check the time/date of a given file (clientraw.txt) at specific intervals and if the file is more than XX minutes old, the script would then send me an email?

TIA,
-Joe

Joe,

You could try the script in this thread.  I can give you my modified version if you want.  I have it run every 30 minutes via cron job, at :05 and :35   Its great for letting you know if your pc, or individual programs like wd or vws crashes, most of my emails are from GR3 failing.

Yes, please. It looks like what I need, I've fiddled with the TZ's but am getting errors:

Sorry, bringing up an old thread. Been using this without a hitch.

Yesterday afternoon it started telling me there was an issue uploading:

The following files didnt upload correctly:
 fixed.jpg : 13:10:37 EDT
 clientraw.txt : 13:15:46 EDT

This has gone on non stop since then with the exact same files and time emailed to me.
The files are uploading ok though.

Tony,
Are you getting the email over and over, or it looks wrong when you launch it on browser?

I just clicked and both had checkmarks.

Yes, I'm getting the email every 30 minutes as I have it set up.

I deleted the script, it continued to send.
Deleted the cron job, continued to send too.

This happened once before on a server move at GoDanica. I changed the send to email address
and it continues to send it to the old one. Last time during a server move there was a cron job
left behind or something on the old server.

I just emailed them and told them that and we'll see whats up.
Thanks Andrew!

That was going to be my next guess.   The script and cron running on a server and your files were "moved" in the backgroun to a different one.
Let us know from danica says...

I got the typical response from GoDanica:

Quote
To Edit a Cron Job

Log in to your Account Manager.

Click Web Hosting.

Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.

In the Content section of the Hosting Control Center, click the Cron Job Manager icon. This action displays the Cron Job Manager screen.

Highlight the Cron Job that you want to edit.

Click the Edit icon.

Edit any fields you want to update.

Click Save.

I deleted the script now but it's running quite happily and sending me emails every 30 minutes.
I tried to covey that point in my next email.  Razz

They think I have rocks in my head or something.

It CONTINUES to email me every 30 minutes. It's coming from one of their servers also
according to the address.

There is no cron job or Status.php file on my server according to them.
I must be dreaming I guess.

FYI, they fixed it, and it was exactly what I told them it would be.
But caught me with too many files in my html directory.

That happened to me last year.  A few days after reporting a problem, I got an email that it was resolved.  A few hours later I get an email telling me that I am violating the 1000 file/folder limit in my root folder.  "You have till x date to bring it under the limit, or we will start randomly deleting files to bring you under the cap".
