Friday For An Ice Jam And Snow Melt For Salcha From The Boondox
Area Downstream

Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the
* Flood Advisory for an ice jam and snow melt for Salcha from the
  boondox area downstream
* until 1000 PM akdt Friday
* an ice jam formed Thursday night on the Tanana river about
  one half mile downstream from the boondox...in the general area
  of Salcha Rescue.
* The old Richardson Highway was flooded Thursday night north of
  the boondox area. An earthen dam was built overnight to prevent the
  flooding of the old Richardson Highway and has been effective.
  Flood water is being diverted downstream. Warm temperatures in
  the Tanana basin for the past ten days have resulted in rapid snow
  melt. The water equivalent of snow on the ground at Fairbanks
  international fell from 4 inches last Saturday morning to zero
  this morning.

Tanana River At Salcha From The Boondox Area Downstream...

Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the
* Flood Advisory for an ice jam and snow melt for the Tanana river   
  at Salcha from the boondox area downstream.
* Until 1100 PM akdt Tuesday
* an ice jam formed Thursday night on the Tanana river about
  one half mile downstream from the boondox area...near Salcha       
  Rescue. The ice jam remains in place Sunday afternoon and new runs
  of ice have added a significant amount of ice to the jam causing   
  it to extend upriver several hundred yards since Saturday. Water   
  is currently rising and running over a 30 yard section of the     
  erosion control dike next to the dam and causing the dike to       
  erode.
  Additionally as of Sunday afternoon water level on piledriver
  Slough rose over a foot since Saturday evening and continues to
  flood the old Richardson Highway south of Stringer Road. There is
  currently no flooding on the old Richardson north of Stringer Road
  but water is up to the edge of the Road and could flood that area
  soon.
* The old Richardson Highway near Salcha Rescue is flooded with
  water over 1 ft deep and the Road is closed. Yards in the area
  are flooded and some homes may become flooded. Portions of
  the old Richardson Highway along piledriver Slough south of
  Stringer Road are flooded as well and impassable to cars. The old
  Richardson north of Stringer Road could flood soon.
  People in Salcha along the old Richardson Highway from the
  boondox area north should be alert for rapidly rising water       
  that could develop behind the existing ice jam. Residents should
  move valuables out of flood prone areas. Residents should be       
  prepared to leave on short notice and have an emergency supply kit.
