After several issues with my computer I want to run my VP2 independant of a computer. I backed away from the IP originally for price and complications of setting up the router. My dad who's a tech wiz can't stand routers. So I may need to seek professional help. Not sure if the IP needs a complicated setup. But I want my VP2 online. A few questions.

How long does it take to setup an IP with a router?

Does the user or Davis setup WLIP with Wunderground and CWOP ID's?

What data goes to the IP network? For example I've got a leaf/soil station. Will that data go to the IP network?

Does it cost extra to the internet service?

Thanx.

this is my link  and you can see the data.. go to summary on the site
http://www.weatherlink.com/user/weatherdata/

I have 7 stations of data plus the soil units you spoke of.

It is rather easy..   you install the IP logger into the VP console or envoy ..whatever you use.
You then plug the ethernet cable they have (or you can buy a longer one as well) and plug it into an available spot on your router or modem.

Follow the instructions to their site and you enter the DID and Key which is on your logger plug, you can easily see it.

After that is done and their server recognizes your logger you are in business.

You create a log in and password.  Go to setup and enter your CWOP and Wunerground IDs.

No ID's  you have to create one with their websites and they have instructions on how to do it.  I suggest you locate for all of these, the IP logger, CWOP and Wunderground you latitude and longitude before hand, as you will definitely need it so they can find you.

All the data on the station goes to the logger

A few minutes if you are familiar with network set ups.  It is best to eventually set the WLIP to a static IP on the router subnet. That is done by changing the WLIP's setting on its configuration page.

You select which services to have the Davis servers to relay/upload data to.  You will have to enter IDs and passwords on the Davis upload page. Note that Davis only uploads to WU every 15 minutes.  That is fixed..

All data that WL is configured to receive.

The subscription to Davis net comes with the purchase of the WLIP.

I recommend using the router to assign (reserve) the fixed IP address.  It can be a real pain trying to figure out the IP address of something that isn't using DHCP and doesn't have a reset button, in the event the WLIP is moved to a different network or the router is replaced.

I just plugged in my IP to the router and it took care of everything.
Just follow the instructions that come with it and you will be fine.  It is real easy, your soil sensors will have their data uploaded and you can set your intervals..  it is so easy a caveman could do it. Embarassed
