Starting 4/12/2012 select TDWR sites will update the lowest elevation scan at 1 minute intervals and some other products at 3 minute intervals during severe weather when the radar is set to VCP 80.

Details: http://www.roc.noaa.gov/WSR88D/PublicDocs/TIN12AddedTDWRproducts.pdf

Does anyone know if this is something GRLevel 3 will detect on it's own? It's been a while since I've updated my version.

Good question. Being that Dallas is in the bulls eye today we shall see.
It's interesting that you posted this. Yesterday I watched a NOVA program that dealt with 011 tornado outbreak. One of the problems in forecasting the T's was the distance the tower was to the storm. Over long distances as the earth curves the lowest angle, .50 loses site of the ground so it can't see rotation as well at long distances. They installed a new and experimental type of radar that was lower to the ground and also had a lower tilt. I think but not sure it was installed near Tuscaloosa. Anyways this radar was able to pick up more ground rotation because of it's lower overall height and angle.
Just looking at the Dallas TDWR now it has a .40 tilt  in  VCP 90. Not sure what tilt VCP 80 has.

Well, I've answered my own question. (version 1.79)

TCVG is currently running VCP 80 and when I used the "Start Archiver" button the ARCHIVED images are approximately at 1 minute intervals - however the software still polls for a NEW image after about 6 minutes.

0.10° Tilt, Base Reflectivity
"Prod" times (using the archiver)
08:40:15 AM
08:41:16 AM
08:42:17 AM
08:43:16 AM

"Prod" times (allowing normal operation)
8:56:08 AM
9:03:11 AM
9:09:10 AM

Discussion on the Owner's board says maybe, maybe not.

Update might be in the works to address it.

AllisonHouse says it will not with the latest version (1.91b), hopefully a new version is coming soon.
In any case, I need to update.

A local meteorologist has version 1.92 per a special request by emailing Mike

I'll have to try requesting it also.

...or you can view 1 minute intervals on Weather Underground (up to 40 frames if you are a member)
