Hi, Guys I have a Question about the Anemometer transmitter kit.
I was wondering if multiple wind sensors can be added to the Davis VP2?.
I haven't seen any photo's of the inside of the anemometer transmitter kit's enclosure
and was wondering if adding wind sensors was as simple as plug & play so to speak?.
If any of you guys have any photo's of the inside of the enclosure's terminals, it would be nice to have a look at.
I'm looking in to doing a little more research before I make any Decisions on my weather station purchase.
I'm not gonna ask anyone to go up on their roof to take pictures of the inside of the Anemometer's transmitter kit.
I'm Only asking if anyone has any photo's from working on their anemometer or from installing the anemometer transmitter kit?.
I know that the Davis VP2 Can support up to eight different stations. which this flexibility has got my attention.
as other stations sensor's cannot be added so easily.
Thanks!

Adding one anemometer or moving your original anemometer to an anemometer transmitter is plug-and-play with your console or Envoy, but you can only have one anemometer for each receiver (console or Envoy) that you have.

Look at this anemometer transmitter doc for drawing of the inside of the transmitter: http://www.davisnet.com/product_documents/weather/manuals/07395-237_IM_06332.pdf

An anemometer transmitter can transmit other sensors besides anemometers.  See this tech note: http://www.davisnet.com/product_documents/weather/app_notes/AN_32-sensor-configurations.pdf

So the bottom line is that you must have one anemometer transmitter, one receiver, and possibly a Weatherlink logger for each extra anemometer you want to add beyond the anemometer that initially comes with your ISS.  The only exception to this is the Envoy8X which can receive from multiple (up to 8 )  anemometer transmitters, but the Envoy8X uses different software than the standard Weatherlink ot third-party weather software.

Just curious - I was wondering why you would need to have multiple wind sensors.

that's a good question Dalecoy, One reason would be if you wanted to do a more in depth wind research and a more in depth
wind data logging for an example logging wind data of blowing from multiple directions at the same time can be achieved by placing sensors on different area's of the yard or MET Station location though it does however require additional hardware that is tied in to a multichannel data logger. and by the Documentation that Dave posted., I see that hasn't changed much being that, " additional hardware is needed that is tied in to a multichannel data logger." for a more in depth Wind Observation and research.
Which I can imagine would be a headache to install and wire up. just so I could log wind data from one or more locations in the yard.
though for now I plan to stick with a Standard weather Station  of a Davis VP2 model 6163, leaf & soil moisture station
and maybe a few extras. after all I am a Moderate Weather Buff who enjoyed watching the weather happen outside my window and see it being recorded to the computer's hard drive.
Thanks Guys for your input on this Subject!.

and, I'm guessing it would be the same except for different stations. like the leaf & Soil moisture station or an additional Temp/hum station.

No, it's not the same.

The Davis Vantage pro 2 documentation says, the Console/receiver can "accommodate up to eight wireless temperature or Temp/hum stations or two fully or partially populated Leaf & Soil Moisture temperature stations."
though I am doing a little more homework and reading up on this before I make any final decisions on purchasing my weather Station.
again Thanks for your input Guys!.

Yes, that's what I meant.  A single console can handle up to 8 transmitters, but only one of those transmitters can include wind data.

[And if there are other Davis stations in the neighborhood, the limitation applies to each of the consoles]

Andy, I can understand placing anemometers at different spots on your property.  I had a regular ISS at 5-6' and its anemometer at 12' for ET purposes.  I knew from a neighbor's station data that the winds, temperature, and humidity were quite different higher up.  So I've added a second anemometer and a temp/hum sensor at 26'.  These sensors are connected to an anemometer transmitter which is acting as an ISS without a rain gauge.  There is a an Envoy recording data from each station.

Davis wireless VP2 equipment is quite versatile.  The biggest limitation is your pocket book.  Very Happy
