115.9°F @ 2:43PM today. OK, not quite 116 but close enough for government work.
Monsoon moisture building in over the next few days should keep the extreme heat away for awhile.

Wow! That's blistering hot! We had heat indeces a few days ago that were around 110ish from the high humidity, but that's down-right HOT! And I looked on your site banner Larry and it says 91.2 at 430 in the morning!!

Yeah, for me, anything above 110 is HOT, I don't care what the humidity is. The ole' "dry heat" rationalization goes right out the window when the ambient temps get to that level. And I looked on your site banner Larry and it says 91.2 at 430 in the morning!! Wow, it cooled down a little since midnight(99.9 °F). Excellent! We reached an "overnight" low of 87.9°F at 5:07am. The airport (closer to The Strip) didn't fall below 90. Just another summer day in the desert.

The overnight heat is what really annoys me. We're looking at monsoon moisture moving in with 30% pop's forecast Friday and Saturday, so although the temps will slide into the low 100's we will trade that for higher humidity...pick your poison.

I would MUCH rather have lower humidity; the Monday before last-ish, we had temperatures in the 100s with RH around 45%! It was downright awful!!

I remember back when TWC was good that one of the reporters interviewed someone who lived near Death Valley, who said that the heat didn't bother them until the temperature hit 120F because at that temperature it would start burning their eyes....OUCH!

Sure, rub it in Joe. Temps have been right about 100 or so most of the day with the dewpoint hovering around 60 degrees. Not too extreme though, when you look at what other areas of the country have had to deal with recently On a more positive note, with all this moisture around it looks like we should finally get some measurable rain in the next couple of days.

Yeah the most extreme moment during the heat wave for us was when my weather station recorded 100.4F with a dew point of 75.5F!!
Good to hear you are getting some rain soon...We could use it too. There is some light rain heading this way from the south but it is dying out as it gets closer.

I hear it's suppose to hit near 100F tomorrow in DC! Not too bad for us with highs in the upper 80s.

well this just came in. The state fire marshal is urging people to be extremely careful with fireworks, lit cigarettes and outdoor burning, warning Iowa is a "tinder box" because of dry conditions. Nearly a-third of Iowa is now under a burn ban. Fire Marshal Ray Reynolds said he can't recall a time since the 1980s when it has been this dry in Iowa. Reynolds said the only fires allowed during a burn ban are controlled burns, and those need a permit from a fire chief and need to be supervised. Small recreational camp fires are OK but must be in an outdoor fireplace built of bricks, metal or screen mesh. Violators of a burn ban could be cited or arrested for reckless use of fire or disobeying a burn ban. View the current list of counties under a burn ban at http://www.dps.state.ia.us

Luckily we've had some rain recently. However, there were towns around here that canceled/postponed 4th of July fireworks because of the dry conditions.
