I have been streaming the NOAA weather radio broadcast to Wunderground and Icecast since Wunderground started the radio program. A while back I noticed that a few local weather sites had taken the Wunderground player and put it on their site using my stream as their default without any credit to me. I wasn't very happy about that so I started using Icecast almost exclusively. I have decided to no longer keep my weather site active but I got an email a few days ago asking me to please please please stream the weather radio to Wunderground because thousands of people in the Greeenville, SC area were relying on my stream. After investigating the email address I found that this email-er is selling an app on the Apple app store using most, if not all, the streams going to the Wunderground servers. I'm not sure if Wunderground is aware of this or not but I assume they do know what's going on. I for one am not going to use my time and energy to keep a stream going 24/7 and let someone else profit from it monetarily.

Thanks Lonnie.
I thought that might be the one. I will also notify Wunderground about this, so maybe if several of us who broadcast say something, they might be inclined to check on it.
Edit: I have notified Wunderground through their Email support system. Actually opened a ticket on it. Will see what/if any response I receive. Will keep you apprised.

There are also free apps that are using the WU weather radio streams, without any attribution to where they are coming from. (Edit -- They do use the Weather Underground logo, but no links to any personal weather sites.) "Tune In" ( tunein.com) is one I have been using on my Android. I do use it periodically to make sure my Roanoke stream is still working. |

It's just a personal issue with me. Right or wrong or it doesn't make any difference can be argued all day long. As long as there is a "reply" button somebody can have an opinion. It won't make me nor break me but I don't give things away for other people to make a financial gain. Never have. Never will. If Wunderground doesn't care if people are stealing time from their servers, I'll just broadcast through icecast, change the port number and advise all that need the weather radio broadcast of the IP address. Lonnie, Heard from Weather Underground today. They were surprised to hear that someone is doing that and they are checking into it. Kevin, I turned that website information that you posted ( http://tunein.com/) over to WU in my response back to them. We'll see what transpires. John |

I also heard from Wunderground today. I sent them the website address of the guy we were discussing and copies of the emails he has been sending me. We will see what happens.
