Today I grabed my old WMR100A's 4 in 1 sensor unit and operated on it. The temperature and humidity was a no go. The wind vane I'l eventually see if I can do something with it. But using what I found lying around the house I took the anemometer part and turned it into a self contained anemometer like one of Inspeed's models and rigged it up to a bike speedometer. I painted it Silver to look more "professional grade"

The anemometer.

Top shot.

Bottom. The pipe holding the anemometer was the core inside the WMR100 sensor.

Side shot.

Readout. This is an old bike speedometer. You can see the age by the somewhat scratched up screen. Still readable. Needs some calibration adjustments. Using my VP2 as a reference.

Lower wind speeds.

Sorry I don't have photos of the originl sensor being dismantled. Just photos of finished product.

one problem with the bicycle speedometer is that you might struggle to calibrate it for what is basicly a bike wheel the size of the anenometer
I know because I did this same thing once
I ended up making a flip flop IC circuit to halve the number of pulses

The paint job looks like you might have made the cups a bit heavier and maybe even a bit out of balance with the globules of paint

That's only a thin layer of paint. The cups were reattached with hot glue which is what those bulges are. I revised the design a while back. the cups are still really sensitive. The bearings are good. The bike speedometer seems accurate. You press and hold the 2 buttons and it goes into setup mode which gives you a series of numbers to offset the calibration. A little trial and error, I've gotten it accurate. Maybe one of these days I'l probably look at an Inspeed display.

Between the silver paint and the copper pipe, it's starting to look nicely steampunkish.  In all seriousness, you could probably snap together a few of those, add some victorian detail and make some bucks selling steampunk "atmospheric observation instruments."

People go nuts for that stuff
