Greetings...I have an original Vantage Pro console/display and the installed firmware is dated May 2001. Davis Instruments no longer sells/loans out the firmware updater cable (6311VP1) and the cable for the Vantage Pro2 (6311VP2) is not compatible. Is there anyone on the forum willing to loan the cable out to me or sell it outright if it's not needed anymore? My station is going strong after eight years and this particular console was purchased as a second receiver, used obviously. My primary receiver contains the most current firmware (Nov. 2006) and there were several improvements through that time that the firmware updates cleared up. Thanks for your consideration. If you have one of these lying around or know where to pick one up please let me know.

Hello and thanks foe the reply... I'm in need of the complete assembly. The way I understand it I would download the firmware update to my computer (through Davis' website) then download it to the 6311VP1 for upload to the console. I guess if it was missing the serial plug all I would have to do is obtain one and attach it to the rest of the assembly....

Is this a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or is there are good reason to do an uppdate of the firmware?
I don't have the cable either and now that I check it is truly unavailable through the Davis site. Since these things seem to last forever it would be nice for them to continue to rent them out.
but if my station has been functioning, maybe it doesn't need updating?
Does the update fix something that might be lurking? Does it add new functionality?
Just curious.

I'd only updated firmware on my original VP+ once -- when the new daylight savings time rule went into effect. Other than that, no updates.
I do have a standalone firmware updater from Davis for the VP1 console.

The changes were:
Firmware version Nov 20, 2006
Now supports new daylight savings time dates
External software can now detect if the console is on daylight savings time or not when in "auto detect" mode
Fixed non flashing graph point. (last dot)
You could try contacting wxwatcher (see the posts above).

Just for the record, we still operate a VP1 updater loan service here in the UK. (In addition to a VP2 updater service of course.) But really I'm not sure that an upgrade to the 2006 revision F/W would show more than minimal differences. Contactable via www.weatherstations.co.uk |
