I've always wanted to do a few things with the dashboard but haven't had the time to play around with it lately and I didn't have a good option for the Lightning/Snow in the middle of the display. Well thanks to one user who talked me into adding the Tide display, I've spent the day working both out! In this new version, the 3rd row, second column will now have 4 options... - 1. Lightning Display
- 2. Snow Display
- 3. Tide Display
- 4. Blank (spot for you to add in your own code)
But one thing always bugged me with this section. If snow is set for displaying for a fixed time period, winters like this one in Minnesota will keep the snow showing even when there is none on the ground. Worse yet, it might lead to a thunderstorm and then instead of showing my lightning display, it would be showing snow... Not what I want! So after a thousand different code trys, I have designed it to allow lightning over-ride either the snow display or the new Tide display and show lightning stats in this spot! When the lightning storm is done, it will resume it's normal snow or tide display. Of course this assumes you have a lightning detector (1-wire or Nexstorm). If you don't have lightning detection, then of course, it is a totally static display of snow, tide or blank. Let me know what you think and if you have TIDE needs and want to beta this new version, let me know. Scott

Having a trouble upgrading to 6.51 but working on that. If you need my code for including "Tides" in the "Coming Soon" section; let me know and I'll give you what I have. I think you have quite a few people living along bodies of water that would love to include this option. www.carolinastormwatch.com

Thanks but that part is done and working very well already, I'm just working on the code to allow lightning to over-ride snow or Tide. Just need to do some additional testing but other things are keeping my work time at a minimum right now. Thanks though! Alternative Dashboard Version 6.60 BETA is now available for testing! I have finally found the time to put the finishing touches on the new version. This version contains the following new items: - 1. Addition of Tide Display (Not sure who originally created it)
- 2. Addition of new ability for Lightning to over-ride display of SNOW or TIDE
- 3. Ability to have SNOW and Lightning on at the same time
Here is how it works: If you want to use snow and lightning or tide and lightning you now can, it will change automatically as needed. for example: If you have snow and lightning on, snow will display when-ever there is snow on the ground unless for some strange reason you get a lightning storm, then even if snow is on the ground, lightning will display. When Lightning ends, snow will resume. If you have Tide and Lightning, it will show Tides unless a lightning storm approaches, then it will show Lightning. When the lightning is done, it will show Tides again. If you just want tide, snow or lightning on their own, that is fine too. NOTE: I will have limited access to respond to questions for the next week, if you need help, post a question and I'll get back to you ASAP. Also note, this beta requires that you ALREADY HAVE VERSION 6.5x ALREADY RUNNING TO USE and there is no directions/instructions other then those in the new config file. Download the BETA and replace your alt-dashboard6.php and AltAjaxDashboardConfig6.php files with the new files after you have backed up your current versions. Edit the config and you should be ready to go! Don't forget to edit the PayPal code in the main script if you use the donation button too! You can download the script at: http://www.websterweatherlive.com/wxScripts.php

Site is looking good! You may want to add some text to the footnotes, right now you just have those footnote numbers alone at the bottom of the main pannel. That section in in the config file. Just fill in the ones you use. Scott

As always. thanks for your efforts.

Hi, Scott, got the 6.60b working at my site www.dwayneyamato.com/wx/. Looking good so far. Thank you for the updates. Be looking for the final version... tonyva, where/how did you put that tide dial in that box for Tides? Since I have no snow here, I am using Lightning/Tides for this box. Also we seldom have Lightning here so the Tide will be the dominant data showing. --Stan Y. Maui, Hawaii

Stan, To change the images to GIF, look in the functions for the following: global $nexttidequarter; function select_tide_image ($mins_to_next_tide, $high_or_low) { global $nexttidequarter;
if ($high_or_low == 'high') $nexttidequarter = "High$mins_to_next_tide"; if ($high_or_low == 'low') $nexttidequarter = "Low$mins_to_next_tide";
if($mins_to_next_tide <= 0) return $high_or_low . '_0.jpg'; if($mins_to_next_tide >= 360) return $high_or_low . '_360.jpg'; return $high_or_low . '_' . $mins_to_next_tide . '.jpg';
} // end function select_tide_image

Looks great how do you get the silver/grey look of the dashboard??? Thanks Scott for the comment. It is a png format for now. Don't know if gif format is better or not. I still have issues with the dial not being centered vertically between the text and the bottom boarder of the box. Sometimes it is centered but most of the time it kinda rests on the bottom tangent to the edge. Is there a way to center it all the time? Thanks for all the support and improvements to your dashboard. Steve, hope that you made contact with Chris for info with the background that I PM'ed you earlier. --Stan Y. Maui, Hawaii
