Looks like Lacrosse has a new station.

http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/308-807/index.php

New features as compared to the previous 'pro' versions

All battery, no solar panel

color display with bells and whistles

Maybe we'll see it in Costco this fall.

The color display looks interesting and cups vs. fan is nice on the anny but it looks like they took a step backwards in some areas. The temps only go down to -4F and humidity down to 20%. Also the temp/hygro being built together with the wind sensor reduces placement choices with no option to add a radiation shield. The troubleshooting section of the manual even states  "Avoid placing the remote sensor in direct sunlight as it will heat up the sensor and provide inaccurate outdoor temperature reading".  How do you place the wind sensor out of direct sunlight?  Think

I'm still doing some head scratching with this design.

Dan...the part I didn't get was....without the solar panel facing south (northern folks) you have to rely on some sore of manual alignment...? Rolling Eyes

It is confusing. They describe the procedure in the manual as, Mount the wind/thermo/hygro sensor then looking down at the top you rotate the wind vane around to match the compass. At this point you insert the batteries and it sets up it's north bearing this way. The part about of looking to see the top where the compass is while it's mounted? They even mention the ideal location and height for the sensor (either 6' above the peak of your roof or 33' above gnd level). No mention of a safety net below while you're above it using the compass and installing batteries. Rolling Eyes

It need big patent for have correct temperatures.Because the temperature sensor it is inside anemometer base, and the summer with foul sun and low wind it will show + 5 c or + 7 c more from the nornal.
Must put out the PCB with electronic components from the plastic base (with batteries),and put it inside a radiation shield, and after add longer cables with soldering iron stick the anemometer cable.

Are you reading this LaCrosse?  You don't have to play Devil's Advocate to see a lot of flaws here.  The color screen is super-cool, but maybe make it at least compatible with something along the lines of the 28xx sensors that are not so integrated.  The photo of the temp/wind looks like it is made to be mounted on siding or wooden post, definately not above a peak.  The dimensions don't put it very far away from that exterior mounting wall...

Wind/Thermo/Hygro Sensor:
4.5"L x 12.63"W x 3.38"H
(114 x 321 x 86mm)

Is good with low cost from the electronic-plastic parts (no extreme freeze weather over mountain e.t.c), but it need some mods, for work correct toast

It is not a bad idea, combining the weather and picture viewer.

It does not appear to have a PC interface so unless they make it compatible with their little gateway that talks only to their site, it may be an appliance only device.
