The Bing Map works fine on Chrome.  used it both yesterday and today.  You have to zoom in quite a bit before the stations begin showing up on the map (for logistics reasons, I'm sure).

I can't get the Map App to load on my copy of Chrome. Are you on Windows or Mac? I'm on Mac. I'm getting the error. Chrome should be the same on either platform?

"We are unable to load the selected map app.  Please try again later."   I've tried for a week without success.  Again, that's using IE7.  Just tried again this morning.

Trying to see if we have a Google Maps app you all can test too...

Imagine. Not working in their competitors browsers. Not Microsoft?  Rolling Eyes

You should partner with people that have more compatible products. In the almost 30 years I've been involved in technology, it is rare if Microsoft has a better or more compatible product than their competitors.  Their web servers still suck, designing a website that also looks good in IE is an exercise in futility sometimes, Word still never caught up with WordPerfect in terms of ease of use, everything has to be proprietary, and on and on. Now they TRY to play catch up with Google with maps.

We use Google Maps and Bing Maps interchangeably. For weather-related mapping, Bing Maps seems a little more high-res, and even WXC (the big media company that provides software to TV stations) relies on it. Trying to find out if we have a Google Map app you all can test. Once I can get Backyard Stations better rolled into OUR own interactive maps, I'll ditch the link and link to our own map instead. The Bing Maps was just something to show in the meantime, but alas, Microsoft has to be so troublesome....

Looks like there will be no instant gratification here.
I guess we have to take Nathan at his word that things will eventually come around.
I guess that means be patient.

Did anyone read my comments about the web enhancements? Our web techs are wanting to PERSONALLY interview one-on-one a few people about how we should better re-design WeatherBug.com and tweak it up. If a few of you want to get in on this, let me know. I'm also going to be interviewed and will tell them everything you've all been telling me, but here's your chance to tell what you want done to our developer's directly and let them hear it directly from YOU.

Thanks!

Nathan, the best thing I could tell you is follow Wunderground's lead. You're trying to do the things they are already doing and doing well. It's going to be a long road to catch up too.

That and seems we had a Google Maps app, but Google killed Maps Apps. So we're stuck with Bing for now. I wanted to link our Backyard Station Map that's at WeatherBug.com to the Backyard Community (which is a better/more reliable map), but I can't seem to find an easy way to link it up.

That's what I'm going to tell them in my phone call. Do you (or anyone else here) want to have a phone call with them so you can tell them in person and let them hear it from you? That way I'm not the only one "pleading", they'd hear it directly from you what changes are needed.

No disrespect intended Nathan, but I would hope the decision making folks at WB would have caught a clue by now.  I'm not too sure a few folks from this board are going to change anyone's mind.  It appears from reading this thread that you have already been forwarding them requests for changes and suggestions for improvement for quite some time.  It's in the their hands now and for what it's worth, it's up to them to convince me, as a data provider ,as to why I should continue to send my data.  As I've said before, what's in it for me?

I'll continue to send it and keep watching...for now.

Keep fighting the good fight Nathan!  Cool

Oh your station shows up on weatherbug.com Tony...near the border of Kyrgyzstan!
You're not too far from the Bishkek/Manas Airport, perhaps you can use them for your METAR.  Very Happy

Lat/Lon issue happened. Email me your true Lat/Lon to backyard@weatherbug.com and I'll get you fixed up. This happens way too often with our Backyard Stations. Smile

I'll keep on for you all! I'll have a phone conversation with them soon, and if any of you wish to jump in too, let me know and I'll personally get you in touch with them. They're happy to chat personally with a few people, so I'll be glad to make this happen for anyone interested! Smile

Это очень плохо. Это был приятный здесь, но сухо.

Я надеюсь, что Тони не слишком тосковать путь там на другой стороне земного шара. Согреться товарищ!

I'm too lazy to cut and paste into translator, but I'm still laughing.  In the mean time, Nathan, I see that my station is showing on the WB map displayed on the main WB website.  It was showing all weatherstations on Wednesday.  Was it corrected to load from the link called backyard stations map yet?  So far it is working on IE8 I am looking at from work right now.  It wasn't working from home on IE7 on Wednesday.

I found it now lol.

Me and my comrades are gonna sneak over the border into Kyrgyzstan.
I've heard the nights in Jany Pahta are usually epic.

It's probably my fault I moved. May have forgotten the - (minus) in my coordinates,
but now that I look at what Weatherbug has, it's not even close to home.

I emailed Nathan to fix it. All is well now. Borscht for everyone!

Yeah, we're working on it. There's a bunch of stations that wind up somewhere when our maps decide to glitch on us. Smile

The app is there, but I still can't get it to load on Chrome Mac. MS hasn't told me squat yet. Once I can get a better map to show up on our Backyard site, I'll post one there. I'm trying to see if I can embed the one from WeatherBug.com or some other map that's more reliable.

What'd I'd like to do is merge the Member Map and Backyard Stations Map into one so Backyard Stations could be linked to people's profiles on the map. It'd be neat. I need to chat with the developer who makes this map though (it's a plugin we're using) and find out how much it'd cost to custom-make this.

Or better yet, instead of just showing color coded pins on the map, allow the pinpoint to display the current station temp reading like certain other weather maps (hint, hint!)  BTW, at home on IE7, the backyard map still says unable to load the app at this time.  Worked fine using IE8 at work. Maybe I'll try to upgrade browser version and see what happens.
