I'm planning on putting my free web site to retirement and getting a real site. With no real knowledge or skill on designing a web site with the weather graphics I need some help. I would like to custome design each widget but I also eventually want to learn how to create my own templates. Where can I go for creating a web site? How much will it cost? And on average how much should it take for a newbie as my self to get this going?

If you weed through all the nonsense, GoDaddy can register your domain for $10 per year. Then e-rice is a good web host also at $10 per year. Then Saratoga Weather has a great template. That should get you going.

Well, you could look at this recent thread:  http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14446.0

Or this one started recently by one of your neighbors:  http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14191.0

There are lots of website design companies in your area, of course.

My real suggestion would be to contact a high school near you and find a student who would be interested in helping you and coaching you.

Or a poor college student.

Your local community college may offer an appropriate course or two.

Oh, and there are lots of weather buffs near you.  Perhaps one of them would be willing to personally help you.

Just started all this within the last month...

Currently have WeatherLink 5.9.3 and USB Logger(no lock up problems here).  Registered Domain with GoDaddy.com along with hosting and email.

Uploaded WeatherLink templates to www.atxwx.net at first attempt to see what templates and WeatherLink are about.

Then got Saratoga Templates up and running at www.atxwx.net/bohls/wxindex.php.   Took about three nights to get every thing working, but feel comfortable with templates now to start making some changes.

Now have TightVNC, VirtualVP and VPLive all going.  Moving right along... Smile

TightVNC lets me control laptop running weather station from my "big"computer,  VirtualVP allows me to start testing other programs like VWS and Weather Display and still keep webpage running.

VPLive gives available console data.  Not sure what else I can do with it just yet.

Anyway, webpage is currently a work in progress....

Willing to help any way I can.   (Going to be in Dallas this weekend)

Have a look at our site. The detailed design and build was by my son in php. It has more than you need but it may give you ideas. We would be happy to share php code but he would not be able to spare time on it for the moment. It requires a phpMyAdmin database to be set up See http:www.wexfordharbour.info and also http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14505.0

You can also try www.fastwebhost.com (formerly eHostPros.com). They have a great deal going on right now that includes unlimited bandwidth. You can register your new webname on their site and then get setup quickly.
