For those of you who have seen the 2012 movie saw the scene right near the end of the movie where the himalayas are being engulfed by a Mega Huge Gigantic Tidal Wave Flood, my question is: Will the Himalayas and the rest of the World (possibly excluding Africa) really be engulfed by a huge gigantic tidal wave on December 21st of this year? because I really don't want it to be the end of the world on that day (as according to the mayan calendar) I want all of us to be alive on that day! and if it does happen, would we all head to China to get on a gigantic ark and head for Africa? (just like in the movie) Could Someone help me out here on this thing here?

Man as an native American I am getting feed up with this crap about the end of the worldaccording to the Mayans. I thought  the White People was suppose to be the educated one and us the savages. According to what I have read. The Mayan calendar is just the end of an period like the white pepole have the age of Aquaris etc. If you tracked Venus  as they did of which the calendar goes thru these cycles. Like our yearly calendar  it comes to an end then starts over.  Hope those of you who believes that end of the wolrd stuff on 21 of december has your name on your belt  so on that day your  know who you are when you remove your head from a certain orfice.

Oh come on John. Look at it this way. If Dec. 21st is indeed the day,   1. You don't have to do your 2012 taxes.  2. Since it's supposed to happen on the 21st, look at all the money and grief in the malls you save for Christmas shopping.  3. You don't have to worry if Obama got re-elected.  A silver lining...

Alright, for starters we can't say that December 21st WON'T be the end of the world but will it be because the Mayans predicted it (which they did not)? Of course not! So if you are worried about a gigantic tidal wave flooding the Earth, you can rest easy as it would likely be a few dozen other more likely scenarios that would play out to ruin our Holiday Season.

This is just like Y2K all over again, and the scary thing is Y2K had more logic behind it than this does. I am a spiritual person and I have certain beliefs about the end of the world and I can tell you right now one of the chief tenants in those beliefs is that not one single person on this Earth will know the date or time that it will happen. It could be tomorrow or it could be ten generations from now. Nobody knows and any prediction you hear is probably not one that you should bet your bank account on.

Just from a meteorological or scientific stand point, I don't even think a tidal wave of that magnitude would be possible. One of the most powerful earthquakes to ever be registered (note to ever be registered, so I am sure there have been even more powerful ones before that that nobody was around to write down or were hitting before the invention of the richter scale) struck off the coast of Japan and brought with it a terrible tidal wave in and of itself. Even with that much power backing up that tidal wave, the damage was still limited to the immediate area that the earthquake struck.

If something was coming big enough to obliterate an entire section of a continent we would probably see it coming in advance (they saw Mt. St. Helens coming in advance for instance.)

So in closing...

1) If you believe in the spiritual aspect of this, then it probably wouldn't be any natural disaster that does the damage on December 21st.

2) If you go with the scientific rationale of this, then right now there is nothing being registered on any front to suggest a global disaster is in the making in the next few months (unless you jump on the global warming band wagon being driven by folks who think an above average month of March is a sign of imminent doom from climate change.)

3) Remember that Hollywood couldn't even get the science about tornadoes right in Twister so don't think they wouldn't play fast and loose with the end of the world in movies like The Day After Tomorrow and 2012.

Yeah I think this December 21st stuff is impossible to predict. The end of the world as HailHunter said in my opinion will never be known and nobody will expect it. I personally think that the human race will ruin itself whether by nuclear arms or other sort of device like diseases or what not, you could go on and on by watching those annoying sci-fi movies. On December 21st, I will be 18 and in my first year of college so I think I will plan that as a good day for a party or doing something cool Cool

I hear the Sun has another billion years of "life" left in it, so I don't believe the Sun will be the cause for the end of the world

Farmtalk, the apocalyptics have gotten to you, haven't they?  Faith in the future is a vital prerequisite to a healthy, productive, and peaceful life.  Here's wishing you all of those things.  When I was growing up the nuclear age dawned, and the prophets of nuclear armageddon were worshiped by our scare-mongering and self-serving media.  Back then you needed a fallout shelter in order to reliably secure your future.  Now the apocalyptics would have us all live as the Amish do.  Listen to them only in peril of your physical, fiscal and emotional health.  When you worship 'news', mostly bad news is your lot, and it will suck the life right out of you.

Yes I do watch the news a lot, so you don't believe that a nuclear war will ruin us?? Maybe I should watch the news a little less

You SHOULD watch Dr. Strangelove (or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb).  You may have to hunt for it, but it's worth it.

Growing up watcing Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Chris Chamblis, and Chief Knockahoma, I used to think that way about the Braves and the World Series.  But.............

(It's just like Yogi Berra used to say, "I can sum it up in two words:  Ya Never Know.")

Oh, one more thing.  Hoss always tells Rick on Pawn Stars that the emptiest trophy case is in the San Diego Chargers headquarters.  (Rick is a Chargers fan).

It will happen at the end of the year in which the Browns win the Super Bowl AND the Cubs win the Series.  You heard it here first.  And, to tie in another recent theme, that will be the year that Hell freezes over due to Global Warming.  (All that heat energy has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?  And when heat leaves, what is left?)

Or By Dawn's Early Light  which is (or was) very possible.  At one time it was thought to be a more likely cause of WWIII than anything else.   Of course WWIII would be over in a matter of minutes and those extremely unfortunate souls that survived would suffer for years  as depicted in Damnation Alley, The Day After and so many others.

when the sun becomes a red giant -> end of the world

As far as us getting cooked by the Sun, there was The Twilight Zone:  The Midnight Sun -- When the Earth falls out of orbit, two women try to cope with increasingly oppressive heat in a nearly abandoned city.

I still think it'll be a rogue plant killer asteroid that takes us out by surprise.

Or Alas, Babylon, wrote back in the 1950s, but it has some timeless information to ponder.

Now I wonder how does the cast and crew of the 2012 movie knows or feels about the real life December 21, 2012? Like maybe director Roland Emmerich? Or how about actors like John Cusack, Amanda Peet or Chiwetel Ejiofor? Do they have their own personal thoughts about the real life December 21, 2012?

I have some native American friends that are far more wise than some people I hang around with. I am tired of hearing about the end of the world as well.
