My nearby local KBOX doppler radar is undergoing it's WSR-88D upgrade! I'm really looking forward to seeing the improved and new radar products.

Tampa NWS starts there upgrade February 27th.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/tbw/TopNews/PDF/ChangeinDualPolInstall.pdf

But according to the NWS the Dual-Pol Radar will not be available to the public untill 2013 after all of the NWS offices have been upgraded.

Quote:  Following the upgrade, Dual Polarization products will be available for usage one week after the install is
complete. Please note, however, that dual pol products will not be available on public NWS radar web
pages until all U.S. radar sites have been upgraded in 2013.

"funny" video.  Although the humour is almost lost because the jump between spoof and serious is almost hard to see, to the point that is almost ends up being cheesy/looking cheap like 50's style "red menace" psa's.

ps; Neondesert, I think you used a mailto bb code when posting your link, had to copy/paste into browser to get it to work.

Here is a PDF that shows the schedule for the upgrade to Dual-Polarization technology at various sites: http://www.roc.noaa.gov/WSR88D/PublicDocs/DualPol/DPDeployment080911r1_TC_WG.pdf

My site, KOAX, won't get the new technology until over a year from now. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

If you want more information about Dual-Polarization go here:  http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/courses/dualpol/Outreach/index.html.

It's still viewable through GRL2 products.
I spoke with Steve Nelson who's the COO of the Atlanta NWS office about their DP upgrade that happened at the end of November. He was very excited about it and talked about how it's already pinpointed hail core's and debris ball's in some of the severe weather we've had.
