My site went live this morning!! Between camera issues and wireless signal problems I didn't think it would EVER be done!! LOL...

http://www.charlottecountyweather.com

A few pics here: http://www.facebook.com/ccweather?sk=photos

Made custom anemometer graphics.. also did a slight mod on the Mobile Dashboard stuff to work with the Base-USA default ajaxWDwx.js and dashboard ...

Any input, comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Is there a reason why you have the dashboard on your links and about pages?

Initially, it was just to fill the page a little more ... But, over the past few weeks while I was working on the site, I noticed analytics were a bit better for keywords on those pages with the Dashboard rather than without...

The site looks great Mark.  Welcome to the forum and please share some of the information/problems you encountered in setting up the equipment.

Ran into 2 serious/annoying problems...
1) running multiple USB cams from a single system out to 100ft+
2) TE923W-M wireless reception issue

Problem #1 was solved by using POWERED USB Hubs.
1 for each camera, each on their own port. 5v, 2.1amp...
I am using USB extenders, but the PC couldnt supply enough power via USB to keep em going.
Not in any stable fashion anyways. It could handle 1 and sometimes 2, but not a 3rd.
After going with the powered hubs I actually tested up to 4 USB cams at once - all stable.

Problem #2, I didnt FULLY realize until Monday morning, when I was going to go live with the website.
I had been testing the station equipment, getting software configured, etc, at my home.
Randomly, something would drop signal, but only for short periods.
The final resting place for the weather station was my office. Which, has a flat roof,
steel I-beams and corrugated steel decking, which is also tar and shingle over top. I installed the equipment on Saturday.
Early EARLY on Monday morning I realized that the base station dropped signal
from the anemomter and the UV sensor - and couldn't find them again.

The Final, 5AM, driving back and forth across town resolution:
I utilized the FM antenna wire from my stereo receiver.
I opened the base station, drilled a tiny hole in the case,
stripped about 3 inches of casing from the FM antenna wire
wrapped it around the existing antenna,
tacked it down with a little solder, ran it out the drilled hole.

The standard FM Receiver antenna wire is about 60 inches.
Just so happens, a 1/4 wavelength for the TE923W-M is right at 7 1/2 inches...
A 2 FULL wavelength antenna, off of a retired stereo...
The reception jumped thru the roof -- No pun intended...

Well, we live and we learn... After a few days of confusion, I realized my temp/humidity sensor was not placed properly...

I initially had the sensor placed on the northern side of my office building.
The majority of it is covered by an awning and shaded ALL day.
The temps and dew points were way too cold all day and night...

Was fine at night... But ran warm during the day... So, I built a solar powered aspirator fan...
Motor and Solar Panel - $12 from radio shack... Aluminum strap - $4 from Home Depot...
I used the blades from an old CPU cooler...

At this point, was close, but not quite right... So, I covered the top of the shield and the southern exposure side with aluminum foil - shiny side out!! LOL

Running Stable!!! And quite accurate - FINALLY!!! ...

Oh, and regarding the wireless reception for the TE923 ...

Let's say - this thing is a pain in the ass...

After much trial an error --- I now have solid signals on all sensors.
One of which is through 3 layers of 8in block and 1 six inch.

The internal antenna is still in place on the base unit...
However, I now am tapped off of that antenna and split into a di-pole.
15ft to each side - soldered to the original antenna and run through a tiny hole in the case.

The atomic clock is at FULL strength. Never worked before.
All sensors are stable.

As I said, between the thermo and the base are 3 walls of 8 inch block and 1 that is 6 inch frame.
The thermo sensor is approximately 120ft from the base unit...

Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, all is good unit the batteries die, next winter...

Hopefully...

Well, I thought I had the antenna and reception issue worked out... But I was wrong... Spent the past week troubleshooting, trial and error, random configurations, etc until I finally worked out a Solid AND Stable resolution for the TE923W communications issue.

I posted what I worked out - here: http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14417.0

Hopefully it may save someone else a lot of headache in the future...
