Lets open this up to the panel  Dancing a little competition in diagnosing the issue, lets see who can spot the problem, no doubt there will be other units with the same issue depending on the manufacturing date.

Out of interest next time you open the Envoy case note the position of the Black battery wire where it is soldered to the board. There are three holes, which hole is it soldered in?

It's soldered in the "B" hole and there is only one hole there.  This is an Envoy with box dated Aug 31, 2011.  I guess you aren't up with the latest Envoy revisions.  The board has been significantly revised since C5250's version.

Edit: The photo I posted is of a combined wireless Envoy-wired Envoy design.  Notice the added RJ12 jack which of course is not used on a wireless Envoy.  Originally I didn't look closely and mistook this for an Ethernet port.  Older Envoys do not have this jack.  It must connect to the six holes under it.

But you got to love his enthusiasm to start, prod, procure and encourage an argument...even if it does not make any sense at all.

I wasn't even gonna look at this thread again, but now that the delusional one is gone...

Yes, that was obvious when he asked where the black wire was connected. But, I gave him the opportunity to make a case, and that wasn't done until after being called out for a lack of substance.

If what was claimed was true, the batteries in my Envoy should be dead in about a month or two. So just for completeness, when I think of it, I'll check the batteries about then. I doubt it though, my Envoy has had to use the batteries in the past, many, many months after they where installed.

There is such a thing as self-discharge, which effects all batteries, and it's why all batteries eventually go dead.

When one has fact on their side one doesn't need to encourage anything but simply sit back and take note of those who think they know what and who doesn't.

You can't argue with fact buddy but then some of you wouldn't know what the facts are on this subject otherwise you wouldn't be spewing forth bullsh!t. Another one who talks crap with no credibility.

Fail

That response is ..... incorrect

Let me fill you in on exactly what that incorrectly (yes that is an incorrectly) wired Envoy is doing. The primary source of power is actually coming from the backup batteries and the backup circuit is powered from the external AC adapter, in affect the primary and backup circuits are switched.

Given time the internal so called backup batteries will definately run totally flat (as they are in affect the primary power source in this case), when flat then the circuit switches over to what it thinks is the backup batteries but which is actually power coming from the AC adapter.

Yes there was a bit of a slip up with some hardware but hey I'm just the messenger and by the sounds of it what you don't know won't hurt you.
please explain, how are the primary and back-up supplies switched? The location of the red wire (in C520s post) is where the console batteries always connect (envoy or console) and the black wire connects to 0V (the same as console or envoy) the back up supply (that's the batteries) switches in when the main supply drops out, (controlled by Q11 an FDV304P FET on the main PCB by the looks of it).

As much as I hate to revive this thread... The batteries in my Envoy tested dead again today (replaced in Nov of last year). So it was time for some investigating.

It seems Flag did know something, too bad he wanted someone to beg him for the answer. After comparing how the batteries where connected in a Console vs my Envoy, I found that the black wire was indeed in a location that was not electrically the same.

The middle hole is electrically the same as the battery connection of a Console. So it appears the proper connection should like this:

Mine is old and apparently newer versions have added a dedicated location for the black wire, so this problem is much less likely to exist on newer versions. But if you have an older Envoy that seems be using up batteries at an excessive rate, this might be something to check for.
