I just started playing around with TeamViewer, after a other posts about it. Pretty neat and just what I wanted.

I've only played across my network and it looks like what I've been 'needing' for remote access. How do I go about that? Do I sign up and use them as a hub? Free or fee?

Me and another person on this forum have used it before, and he just reads my password that changes with each use, and plugs it into his and then were good to go

I regularly use it to avoid quick trips up or downstairs to check on or tweak a computer.  It's especially handy for monitoring my three computers running weather-related taska.  I used it easily via netbook on a recent trip to Michigan--until my unreliable Linksys router crashed again cutting off my access to one critical weather computer that's on the DSL subnet.  I wasn't sure what had happened until I returned home and saw that the router and its associated DSL modem weren't transmitting data.  Rebooting the router cured the problem.  I currently have 12 computers live on my TeamViewer partner list, 11 of which are on my Cable Modem subnet that uses a Netgear router.  I'm still doing the seti@home thing, but for how much longer I'm not sure.

I switched to TeamViewer from LogMeIn a couple of years ago, and haven't looked back.  It's a superior solution IMHO, despite the nag messages that it leaves behind to 'play fair' and only use it in a non-commercial environment, which I am.  I make no money with my computers, just spend it.

Anyone have any experience using with on a pc that runs and uploads GR3?   My one foray into remote desktop (MS built-in rdp) at home resulted in GR3 ceasing to upload until I went back up and restarted it.  GR3 is a bit flightly that way.

I have been using Teamviewer for about a year or two now and won't use anything else. I have my friends computers here in town as well as friends in In, Mo, NB, WY in my contact list. I also use it to remote to home to work on the weather station during break and lunch time. Some may remember that some time back I set up a Windows 8 demo system that everyone could play with via the Teamviewer web client. I have even Teamviewer'ed into my weather computer, then Teamviewer'ed from it to my main computer at home to FTP a file from the main to weather and then to my desktop here at work. I have another project that I will open to everyone for a while some time soon via Teamviewer.

Another neat utility is a website.... www.ninite.com . Say you just wiped and reloaded a computer....you need to load up the basics such as Adobe Reader, a zip program, Teamviewer, AVG, HULU, or any one of dozens of programs...you could go to each website or search on CNET Downloads but you still have to install each one at a time.....go to www.ninite.com check a box for each package you want installed, let it create the installer for ALL programs...launch it and walk away.

Another vote for Teamviewer here!  Awesome app.  Comes in a portable version that I use with clients who do not want an install.  the web connect version is OK, but not as good as the app.

I used Hamachi for a while.  Wasn't impressed.  Tried LogMeIn, but that was when I had satellite and there were problems.

I wouldn't mind something where I could connect home machines, but I don't think I'd be comfortable hooking to/from outside like that.  I know VPNs and their clones are supposed to be secure, but I'm not convinced.

Ditto - great little package! Saw it mentioned on this forum a while back and since I wasn't very happy with LogMeIn, decided to give it a whirl. Haven't looked back since. Unlike LogMeIn, I find the remote rebooting to be much more reliable. Remote connections just work. Have never had a problem since installing it. I really like being able to upload/download files via Teamviewer which LogMeIn doesn't have in their free version.

It allows me to update my Acer netbook weather computer from my main desktop. The netbook sits on a shelf and isn't very comfortable to work with standing up. Teamviewer solves that problem.

Ditto for teamviewer.  I use it from home to get to my computer at school.     They don't know.
 The faster the computer, the better it works.
I have done major edits and file transfers.
We have  a log in screen-it starts before the login screen so I can log in from home.  The computer seems to restart itself once in a while./
Must be a network need.

I also use it to check in on the kids computer.  Freaked my little one out-sent messages over the computer to her. She thought it was a magic computer that talked to her.

Most of my remote work is done on my own home network but I do support several other friends with computer help. Since the password changes with every connection I don't see where there is much to worry about. Maybe I'm just being too lax & trusting but I don't think so. I don't use it for connecting to banks or any other commercial or financial sites. Just local friends.

It is really straightforward.  Run TV on a remote machine (when you set it up it gets a unique ID number.  Set the password to something YOU want).  Go away.  Start teamviewer on anotehr machine and enter the ID and pwd from the remote machine.  You are in.  That is exactly how I access my netbook running Weatherlink  a 1000 kilometers away.

Once you do the full install, TeamViewer runs in the background waiting for a connection. I use it regularly between local and remote systems. It just works - PERIOD. Can't say much more about it than has already been said in this thread.

I'm counting on liking it - it's great just from the other room. It just sounded/looked a little too easy for true remote usage. I was looking for the hook and glad to hear there isn't one.

WOL is determined by your LAN card and your PCs ability to support it.  It is easy-peasy to do this.  Here is even an online site that allows you to access WOL.  http://wakeonlan.me/

I did a comparison of LMI v TV and came to the conclusion that it is is up to your needs.  TV was great because the file-sharing utility was built in.  LMI was great because it is so easy to use the web interface from ANY computer, and make it full screen, with full kybd/mouse control.

I've been using LMI primarily, because I haven't had much success running the client software for TV outside my LAN, and usually just need a quick file (which I just email to myself) or to check something on my WeatherLink box.  Nothing too fancy.

As I recall, I liked LMI's browser interface better than TV's.  TV's client app was far superior, but I gave up using it outside my LAN (or inside [pheph]).  Six of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.  Does what I need so it's fine.
