Thanks in advance for reading this and hopefully helping me. It is a problem I am sure has risen before but I can't seem to find a reference in past posts.
Basically a couple of years ago i bought a Davis Pro" and data logger with Weatherlink software. Started running it with no problem and then, bought Weather Display. For several reasons i am switching back to Weatherlink but am coming up against a problem I never encountered previously. Initially the software was 5.8.3 and, before trying to run it again, i upgraded to the latest 5.9.3. The software runs flawlessly and I used the  Profile which ran fine in 5.8.3. The problem is, when it tries to upload to my website it fails. It fails when it arrives at the ‘Upload file to internet’ check box. It just tries for a fraction of a second and then clears the screen. Nothing is registering on the web site.
The FTP info is correct as I can upload files with WS_ftp Pro, and, I have tried to let Weatherlink upload to our company web site with no success.
I thought there may be a conflict of the old version with the newly installed version but, deleting the directory, as there isn’t an uninstall file, does not allow 5.8.3 to be installed, ‘A more recent version exists’ message is displayed.
Switched off Kaspersky and still no different. Tried ‘Preconfigured' and 'Direct' proxy radio buttones, no change.
Very frustrated, can anyone please help

Which WL logger type do you have and what does the WL log file say about the problem?

Just reading the log file. Seems like it can't find the correct template I think.

It also looks like it is having problems finding the FTP host, so there may be multiple problems to fix before it uploads correctly.

In addition to fixing the problem with the template files (location and/or protection) -- is there perhaps a problem with a firewall?  [in addition to Kaspersky]

Unable to find FTP host ' ftp.barrypemb.f2s.com'.

looks like you have a space before ftp.

why are you not wanting to use WD?

you can use WL and WD together, if you use  program called virtualVP

Sorted the problem. It was Windows firewall, last attempts (of about 50) the Windows firewall window popped up, never done before.
Thanks for all suggestions.
WD keeps crashing on me overnight. When I restart the PC I have to copy backed up files to WD to get it to run. Also, the tabular data is all over the place in date terms whn this happens. I have had nothing but trouble wih WD.

Cheers

Not that it helps you, but WL is trouble-free for me.  WD runs trouble-free for lots of folks.

I presume you aren't running WD and WL simultaneously.

Any idea of what the cause of the crashes might be?  Any applicable errors shown in the Windows Event Viewer?

which version and build of WD?
it normaly runs very stable

make sure you are using a recent version of WD
also if using vista or W7 make sure to set WeatherD.exe to run as administrator

also if it has problems overnight, it could be power saving modes on your pc
i.e make sure your pc is not set to power down the hard drive or USB ports when not in use

Version 10.37Q build 35. Only trying to tun WD on it's own. How do I set WD as administrator, is that essential? Not a p[oer mode problem, set for 100% at all times. How do I check in Event Viewer, is it secreted in Control Panel in W7.

Would rather run WD as it has much better graphics.

Thanks for help, so much appreciated

use the latest version of WD (build 35 is quite old)
to set to run as administrator, right mouse click on the WeatherD.exe file
then select properties, then compatibility and tick to run as administrator

Just re-set exe file to administartor, down loading build 88 and will instal and run overnight. May take a few days to confirm success or not. However, will report back after weekend to let you know.

Thanks again, most appreciative.

If W7, click on the windows (Start) icon (lower left of the screen), type "event viewer" (without quotes) in the box, and click on "Event Viewer" near the top of the list under "Programs".

[Or, for W7 and for other systems, right-click on "Computer", select "Manage", and then select Event Viewer in the left column.]

Or go to windows help and type "event viewer" for instructions.

Found on opened Event Viewer. What am I looking for and exactly where in the menus would it be?

Weather Display:
Just checked power settings, set at 'High Performance'

Hopefully my attachment is visible. It just shows one aspect of what happens in WD when it crashes. There are several monhths of corrupt data like this.

Again, thanks for all the help, gradually getting there. No problems over night

Cheers

Spoke too soon. Switched WD off for a while at about noon. Left it off for 30 mins or so and restarted. It goes then, as usual, to download from the logger the last 7 days ('ish) and then presents corrupt data for graphs, see attached part screen shot. Note time line at graph base.

Well, I don't know what you are looking for....  Very Happy

The way to explore the event viewer is a bit arcane and non-obvious.  If you double-click on an item that appears to be a single line, you will either get more detail in the window, or an additional panel will open with more detail.  The latter will happen at the lowest level (single error), and that panel will have arrows on the right side that let you move up/down to the next error.

Hope that helps - it's a lot easier done than said.

re the download
make sure you are using the latest version (you do not say which version/build you are using now)
also make sure the time and date on the weather station matches the pc
re the data under view, averages/extremes, you can recreate that from the logfiles:
action, convert WD logfiles to data files
then select the needed logfile (eg 112011lg.txt)
and then click on convert

Have tried every suggestion offered on newsgroup. Still having problems. Switched off WD for an hour, it lost data and skipped 9 hours, see attachment. Whilst typing this post, WD came up with the attached error, second attachment. This suggests to me there is either some corrupt files or, a small section of my hard disk might be at fault.
Has anyone any suggestions?
It might be necessary to uninstall WD and reinstall but how can I save the data I have, especially max and min for current month, this year and alltime.

Any help appreciated.

you would need to run the debug version and that should produce an error report
you still do not say which version and build of WD you are currently using
also what news groups?

you can start over with WD settings
but still keep your data and logfiles
and your rain and all time records
in WD go action, delete windows registry entry
then exit WD
then copy out of the wdisplay.ini file the rain data sections and the all time records sections
then delete the wdisplay.ini file
then restart WD
it should start up like brand new, no settings

then setup the basic settings needed (station type, set the data logger switch on)
then later you can copy back in the sections from the ini file you have saved out (when WD is not running)
did you check the time/date on the weather station is the same as the PC?

I posted yesterday "Version 10.37Q build 35"  and "down loading build 88 and will instal and run overnight". Will run chkdsk first, may recover things.

Back possibly this evening  (UK)

Cheers
