Trouble shooting 968 hardware

For the last 2 and a bit years I have been using my Davis, but I still have an old 968.
The reason for the change was the anemometer flat lining. Today we took it apart and it seems that the reed switch has gone, it doesn't click, but other than that everything looked dry. We changed the batteries in the transmitter but the red light doesn't flash. Does that mean the transmitter is also dead? Just -- - on the console for wind speed and shows N and 0 deg for the direction.
On the outdoor temp sensor where the red light does flash there are just -- - and -- - for temperature and humidity, has the sensor failed and are they repairable?
As the console still works and maybe the rain guage, not checked as it isn't somewhere where it gets rained on, I would quite like to get it working again and maybe test it out on a linux machine that I have.
Trouble is by the time you have replaced some things you might as well have bought a new one!!

The rain and temp/rh transmitters are interchangable.  So you could put the rain transmitter on the temp/rh sensor to see if it's the transmitter or sensor that has failed.

I don't know if they're repairable.  As far as I know, they're not.

My RH sensor went out years ago and I swapped over to the 122N for temp/rh.  Some swapped over to the 268.  These are solid state type sensors.  Read more here:

Hi Greg, is that waterproof?
It would need to go in a radiation shield, which I was going to make before I got the Davis, but don't want it dying from the wet.

I'd say it's water resistant.  I have mine in a radiation shield with the WS-2315 sensor, so they're out of direct weather.

Suddenly realised we have two indoor sensors, we sent for an extra one when we bought the station..it is a THGR228N..must be old it says "cable free"! think they say wireless now.  Also says all weather, so I could use that. The one I found I realise now is only temperature.
Now just a case of sorting the anemometer, but thinking the transmitter may be suspect on that as well as the light doesn't flash, replaceable?

Are you really only on dial up....thought we lived in the sticks, but at least where we are get ADSL at reasonable speed. Fibre optic in the capital and maybe out here in a couple of years...mañana.

Oh yes.  26.4 kbs.  28.8 kbs on a good day.  No dsl/cable in the near future.  Could have Hughesnet but we don't see eye-to-eye on a few things.  My wife has a Verizon laptop modem which works really well in the city, but is only ~128 to 150 kbs where we live.
