I want to put some different maps from different sites such as NWS especially and a couple from wunderground. I am going to provide a link to both of their sites, and give them credit for the maps, but when I tried to get the maps on my site, they were very blurry and almost unreadable. I tried resizing and it made it worse...Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks, Cool

If you don't proportionally scale an image, the results are poor.

The easiest way is to display the image at the same size as the original.
The size can be obtained by viewing the image info and getting the width and height.
To display the image, you would change the size values, 578 and 410, to that image size;
Code:
<img src="../images/themap.png"  width="578" height="410" alt="National map" />

Does anyone know of a good way to adjust the map pictures proportionately that way they can be smaller?

Farmtalk, et al,

Be careful when publishing maps and other things from other sites - THEY ARE ALL COPYRIGHTED. For example, if you grab image links from Wunderground it is okay ONLY if you are a member of their group and submit your weather data to them. Otherwise, they may come looking for you.

This subject has been discussed in a lot of detail over the years. You may want to do do some searching in the forum before you start grabbing images for you own website. Just because you include credits doesn't mean you are off the hook either.

I believe that NWS sites which are US Government sites are okay to grab images from without any specific permissions being required. Be courteous and include the source of any NWS links with your images so others can find them also.

As for all commercial/private websites, you do need to have written permission from them to use their data and/or images. If you don't you could wind up in a lot of legal trouble.

Most commercial and government sites have copyright statements on them that explain exactly what you can and cannot do with their resources. You may have to dig a bit to find them but they will be there somewhere. Often you'll links to privacy and copyright info at the bottom of the webpages.

As long as you are paying your taxes...you've paid for these, but give credit were credit is due.
