   I found this by accident.  I think it is amazing and I would love to try it!!!  An amateur photographer, Robert Harrison, launched a balloon and camera to 21 miles altitude and got such good pics NASA is amazed.  Link:

Wow!  That is an awesome pic.  I'd like to know the details of his 'flight', as in balloon size, camera, tracking device to recover, etc.  There's a club around here that takes those pix using model rockets...but not nearly that high.

    Sorry about the link not being active.  It was when I previewed it.  Check out the link and there is some description of how he did it.

What I don't understand is how this camera keeps working in the harsh conditions of the upper atmosphere. Up where the jets fly at 35K it's about 50 below zero so where these pics are from is more then twice that so I'm guessing 100-150 below? Also the solar radiation from the sun should probably destroy  any internal components.
Maybe I'm missing something here. Confused
