We have had some lake effect streamers coming off Georgian bay all day.  Flurries at my house, sunny downtown, but I can see the clouds and even the precip waves in the sunlight from my office window.  Must be snowing heaving just a few km's from my house because Buttonville has said Light Snow all day.

We've got Toronto radar (http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WKR) but I'm usually too lazy to check it.  But yes, I would have thought that Cleveland could reach.

I live in Toronto and I try not to use it.  Doesnt have the same zoom capabilities of the US sites.  Although I use Gr3 personally, even wundermaps using kbuf data is better for seeing rain zoomed in than EC's large display area.

Had some very brief lake effect yesterday while at school. Snow came down hard for about 15 minutes, but the ground is simply to warm right now...However, temps around here dropped to near 20 this morning!

It's been a o.k. season for some but not widespread for lake effect, NWS Marquestte has recorded 31.7" so far and i'm only at 16.5" it's quite a contrast for 30 mile difference.

Lake Ontario is ridiculously warm. Some cold air and we'll get one of those
100"+ over the course of a week snows.

 Very Happy

12/05/11 Finally did the last mowing/leaf mulching, Temps in the high 50s.  While walking the neighborhood I spotted some roses starting to bud.

Today 12/14/11 Finally broke out the snow blower and checked it out.

Just checked Lake Erie temp “The water temperature off Buffalo is 43 degrees“  Boy if we get one  of those Nor-East gales with low temps could be a repeat of the blizzard of 77

Having lived through it (though adamantly just a young lad at the time...I still have the board game!  Smile ) fortunately, it doesn't look good for a repeat of the infamous "Blizzard of '77".  Lake Erie was already frozen over by this time (a record by the way).

The "Blizzard" resulted from incessant winds, gusting to near 70mph at times, driving the 30-35 inches of snow that was already on the ground and the frozen 10,000 square miles of Lake Erie, across the entire region along with temperatures near 0 and wind chills approaching 60 degrees below zero.  These conditions lasted from January 28th through February 1st.  When finished the Blizzard was credited with the taking of 29 lives.
What's even more interesting is that the total snowfall during the Blizzard was only about 12 inches. There is even some question as to how much of this actually fell and how much was just redistributed existing snow.

That said, with the lake still unfrozen and at a toasty 43 degrees, all you need now is a nice southwesterly arctic blast to run up the entire fetch of Lake Erie for some serious "Lake Effect".  Still plenty of time for that.  Wink

When and IF we ever get any cold weather, the lakes will explode with snow.

The question is, if and when cold air comes. There are signs that maybe end of next week?
My grass is still pretty green. The ground is still mushy and lots of mud for my dogs to track in.

12C (53 at midnight) still 10C at wake up, starting to cool off.   Saturday was going to be a "deep" freeze, but now its back to normal or slightly above.  Next monday is still waffling between flurries, snow and mixed.  The Weather Network right now has a low above freezing, and a high of 5C, yet calling for 5cms of snow, and 1mm of rain...  Still dont know if 5 cm's would last the week at or just above freezing during the day.

Ok forget what I just said, the revised forecast just issued, there is no snow Monday.. argh  Brick wall

Now that's more like it!  Cool

If your lucky you might get a repeat of the December 24, 2001- Jan 1, 2002 Lake Effect storm "BALD EAGLE".  Total at the NWS office for that storm was 81.6 inches!  Shocked
Pics and summary of the event here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/buf/lakeffect/lake0102/b/stormb.html

And Larry, you traded Buffalo for Vegas huh?  Laughing Laughing
Your got that right Tony!  After 20+ years of the stuff my wife and I said enough is enough!
It's all fun and games when your a kid but when you have to start driving in it....well let's just say you can keep it.  Smile

Besides, I was getting tired of waiting until May for spring to arrive every year just because Lake Erie acts like a refrigerator when warmer
weather tried to work it's way in.  And don't even get me started on how the wonderful cool waters of Erie "stabilized" most severe weather threats!  Twisted Evil

That wasn't so bad I only spent 27 hours stuck on the 190 in South Buffalo. Brick wall  While on the cell phone with my wife (a number of times) I asked if she got any one to clear the drive way?  Long pause “um - -  well there isn't any snow.   Its fun living next to “lake Dreary” Laughing

As of yesterday Syracuse was some 71" (thats Seventy One  Laughing ) behind last year and
almost 29" below normal. They have received a whopping 1.7" for the season.

Another 1/10 of an inch over night. 0.3" for the month now lol.

Check out these totals from around NY. Also, Lake Ontario is 11 degrees warmer
than it was last year at this time. All we need is some cold air and maybe we'll get some lake effect.

Yup. here too.  Rain yesterday hovering around freezing (just above).  0C wake up today, -8 by eve. -15C tonight, and 40k winds.

Foot of snow up north today, probably 5cm's around here, unless we get a good streamer park over us for a while.  Debating skiing today.  Pretty calm now, but the wind could kick up any minute.

crazy weather, back to zero on wedneday. +5 and rain thursday.   Just wish it would pick a side of the freezing point and stay there, just not too far below zero.
