I've been trying like crazy to keep my station up and running here in central VT. I've been running Cumulus on a dedicated machine with Virtual VP. I've had alot of ups and downs with my emergency generator and floozy UPS's, so there have been a lot of reboots. Other than that, it's been running flawlessly for ages.

Now I can't connect via Virtual VP. I've tried changing com ports back and forth. I've re-installed the special cp210x drivers. In Cumulus I get the weird -63102 (not sure of the number, but it says it can't connect); in Weather link it just times out.

The station seems fine; I've replaced the batteries, checked the power supply and re-seated the data logger. I've tried several usb ports.

I don't know what else to try.

Ideas?

Have you tried directly into weatherlink without vvp.  If it works fine, that will rule out the logger/station.  Then you can focus on virtual vp.

I thought if you configure the station as USB you can go back the other way and use it in "virtual serial port" mode. The things been running so nicely for so long, I've forgotten everything you have to do.

Are you sure that you did those things in the correct sequence?

No, I'm not. Is the correct sequence in the manual?

Yes.  Essentially, you must remove all power (batteries as well as adapter), unplug the logger, wait a few seconds, plug the logger back in, and then restore power.

The key thing is to have no power on the console when you plug in the logger.

Did that...a few times. In doing so, I think I might have found the problem. First time I popped the batteries and replaced them, I got nothing! No beep, no light. Nada. I reseated them and spun them and shucked them around and voila, got my station back. Floozy connection, combined with all the power failures might have contributed to the problem. With the power removed and batteries removed, I reseated the data card.

Anyway, went to the server, started virtualvp, Weatherlink and Poof! There she was!

Thanks for the advice.

I spoke too soon. Now the console is locked up. When I reset the batteries, it comes up again, but is not receiving anything from outside. How long does the CR123 battery in the station last? I've got 100% missed packets.

A couple of years IF the super capacitor hasn't failed or isn't failing (a common failure on certain older VP2s) and if the solar panels are outputting full capacity (an uncommon failure type).

I'm assuming a wireless VP2.
On the ISS SIM board, flip dip switch #4 on and see if the transmit LED flashes.  Don't leave this switch on because the LED uses considerable power and will drain the battery over time.
Take your console nearer to the ISS and watch for the X in the bottom right of the console.  R indicates no or low receive.
If your ISS battery is low, it won't transmit.

I measured the voltage in the battery; it's above 3 volts (3.12?). I got it working again; just seems to be getting flaky. I'll keep my eye on it.
