That was something different that's for sure. Sitting at home on the computer when it happened. Twitter was flying with all the news.

Having spent  a bunch of time in that area, it did not strike me as a quake zone.  Weird

The people I saw outside in NY on FOX News they said were asked to go outside while the buildings were inspected for damage.  Who knows?  A Capitol Police officer also said the Washington Monument was tilting!   d'oh!

I work in a place called Tyson's corners in Northern Virginia.  The quake was felt hard here.  I'm in a 4 story concrete frame building and it really shook.  Fortunately there was only minor damage - some displaced ceiling tile and some minor cracking of sprayed on stucco like coating in one of the stairways.  However, there were a few low rise masonry buildings that had quite a bit of damage.  In Manassas where I live, we experienced very little.  I didn't even have anything fall off the shelves.  In Culpepper VA, a lot of older brick structures suffered significant damage.  I am experiencing some problems with my weather station at Massanutten VA.  I still have power but one PC is off line and the other does not seem to be transmitting to my web site or Weather Underground.  They went off line about the time of one of the after shocks.  I'll get them back on line (hopefully) on Friday.  From what I can tell it is not a serious problem.  Hopefully just a power glitch.

Good thing this happened.  The news was getting a little slow and they needed a new story.

Hugo Chavez will blame the US government that it was using the US earthquake machine to keep its citizens in line.

Very interested in the follow up on the Washington Monument. Closed indefinitely and suffered damage

Another aftershock this morning of 4.2 in Mineral, VA. This is something very different for this area. More reports of damage coming in from the 5.8 earthquake in the city of Richmond.
