Has anyone seen any commercially sold mounts for a Vantage Vue station that would attach to a verticle pole that's roughly 3.5" in diameter?

I have a 25' flagpole already erected in my yard with a lot of unused space on it.  I'm thinking it would be a great spot to hang a Vantage Vue station off of....   But I'll have to make a mount to clamp onto the pole and then provide a 1' verticle section to put the vue on.  Hmm..  brainstorming here...

Just keep in mind, a flagpole, flying a flag, will get quite a bit of flex when the wind picks up.

Good point with the flag flapping, shaking. If you still are considering it, possibly a couple of U-bolts to go around the mast and some galvanized 1" pipe with an elbow might work.

That diagram is actually different than what I had in my mind, but that may be easier.  Hmm..  I was thinking two horizontal bars supporting the one vertical.

I realize it'll be shaking..  that would likely register error on the rain guage during really windy days.

I think the first idea would be as strong, if not stronger, and uses less material too.

Not sure about the appearance but possibly adding guy wires later if you find you need to steady the pole?

All materials being the same, the triangle is always stronger than the square.  The main concern will be the swaying of the flagpole itself.

Are you sure it's 3.5" where you would mount it? Most flagpoles a tapered.

In any case, Rohn should have something suitable.

Get a crane... and mount the Vue right on top.    Smile

Yeah I already thought about putting it on top.  Problem then is getting to it for maintenance, and also the flag could snag the station and break it.

By putting it only 15' up the pole, I am eliminating the flag's reach to the station, and also I can get to it with a standard ladder without risking my life.   Laughing

The wind turbulence and shaking of the pole in wind storms is something that I'm looking at closely...  don't want an innacurate station because innacuracy is not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the ideas..  still thinking..  I miss my VP2 more each day.  Gotta' do something to replace it or repair it soon.  Just don't have the cash to throw hundreds at repairing a station right now though.   Sad

Call Davis - reports say a full refurb could be about a hundred.
