Had a Davis VP2, USB (never an issue like others have had) for 6 1/2 years now. Only 1 issues in year 1 which David fixed n/c
Never used Weather Link except to set it up.
If I could do it all over again, I'd do exactly the same thing except I would have started with Weather Display from the start.
Oh and got the UV and solar sensors in the beginning also.

I use Weather Display with no problems at all, ma'am. Brian, the creator of Weather Display gives excellent customer service.
I am running a La Crosse WS2316 for the last 2 1/2 years with no major issues. I would love to get a Davis, but it is currently out of my price range.

I'm partial to the Davis Pro line. Having the ability to use the Virtual VP product (SoftWX) to feed multiple software procusts may come to be a big advantage as your hobby expands. I currently feed at least 3 products, VWS, WDisplay and VPLive. I have to second the comment that WD can be hard for many users to follow, but this stuff is inherently obtuse regardless of the software IMHO.

Since you're a pilot, what you need is a wind bird. What I call wind birds are wind transmitters that have a fuselage and an impeller. Picture below. These are analog devices. They are intended to connect directly to a wind speed & direction indicator. I have devised a way to connect these to the Davis ISS.

Great idea. But almost $200 for the Davis interface and another $1000 for the wind sensor then adding in the rest of your system with UV and solar, soil, leaf wetness sensor extras, starts putting you in the next higher bracket of commercial systems, price wise. Still a good idea though.
