Hi: With a budget of under $200, can anyone recommend a good outdoor webcam that I could use for my weather site? Prefer wireless (I guess), but open to any suggestions...Thanks!

I've been looking recently as well. I actually got an IP cam that had an IP66 protected case (the best protection) but the image was nasty. I understand that the Panasonic BLC-140 is good but the case protection is only described at "splash-resistant", so I'm not sure it would do for me. Wireless is a bit miss-leading when it comes to these as they have to have some sort of connection, be it power supply, data or both. Some have power over CAT5 which means the power & the data is sent via one CAT5 cable. In the end I went for another normal webcam, well I've got two to choose from, a Logitech Pro 9000 or a Microsoft Liftcam Studio. I'll just make another waterproof box to put it in. These will give good quality images and are far cheaper than an outdoor cam.  |

Yeah, I am sort of coming to that conclusion myself...I like the Lifecam also...I figure some sort of plastic box with a hole for the lens is all I would need for outside...It would be up under the eaves of my deck anyway, so it would probably be fine...Thanks for the info...

At the moment I'm using a Lifecam Cinima in a DIY box that runs through Weather Display's Webcamcapture program. I,ve been using a BL-C140 for about 3 years now I'ts in a totally exposed position facing the Noth Sea and has taken all weather's without a hiccup, and thats without any protective case, can definatly recommend it, picture quality is not bad either http://www.weatherwatcher.co/wxcam.php |

Another BL-C140 user here. It is facing northwest mounted under the eves of the roof. http://www.cavecountryweather.com/webcam.phpPreviously I used a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 also. For some reason I couldn't get it to work on my new win7 computer though. I would recommend either one. |

Some of you have incredible web sites, I am starting to think I need a designer to set mine up, as I have no idea where to start.
I purchased a domain from godaddy.com, then went with e-rice, I have a Davis Vantage Pro 2, Data logger serial, VWS for the software.
I do not have my serial port addon card yet, should be here tomorrow.
I am completely lost!

Need a little hand holding? When my Vue arrives in a couple days I'll be next to you. Maybe you've already had a chance to look at software. I still say the Sharx camera's are among the best (of course, I have one!). My next purchase will be one of their outdoor camera's.
3 different size streams at once
internal web server and DVR
motion detection
ftp transfers
wired or wireless IP camera
IR (good to 40 feet) or not
