if you are getting  a value like that it means its going out of bounds on a signed smallint
the ET is stored with the Forecast string number, so you will need to do some bitwise to parse it out

In a WLK file, -32768, is the value that is inserted if there is no value to stored, it is basically a null value.  Do you have a solar sensor?  If you do not, you won't have an ET value and it will be -32768, most of the other short int values (with the exceptions of lows) use that value if nothing is stored.
