Thanks for the heads-up.   Applause

Would be good if GRLevelX could notify us regarding issues like this, or add the ability to the software to check for an update automatically.

Yea, I'm not that happy with them. The product works fine but the customer is kinda left out of the loop unless you go spend time at their forum.

Several things I think the product needs:

1. The ability to autostart the ftp publishing process.
2. The ability to automatically check for updates
3. More flexibility in the placefile process.
4. The ability to load multiple sites on startup using (potentially) different placefile settings.
5. The ability that when you upload data to your website, to do it in such a way so that a mouseover would pop-up an info box just like it does from the application

I like it simple and easy to use... just the way it is.

Auto updates would be nice, but if you guys keep me informed here... I need nothing more.   Smile

The changes I'd like to see don't make it any harder to use, just more flexible.

Reading between the lines on this subject in the owners forum would seem to bring the assumption that using GR3 on a website wasn't a big concern for Mike. It has since exploded in popularity. You would think he would add more features but unfortunately it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.

He flat told me that he had no interest in making the ftp uploads start automatically. I'm thinking "ok, great support!"

Here is a thread I started a while back.
http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=7115.0

Summary, it was based upon his post at gr3owners....
"You know, if I had to do it all over again, I'd nuke the blasted "Web Publishing" feature. It causes more problems than it's worth and will continue to cause problems for the life of GR3."

It was 90% of the reason I bot it, so that miffed me a bit.   His emergency management clients probably dont care about web and ftp, but I would think the PWS segment of his client based is pretty big now.

I remember 5-6 years ago Tom from Carter Lake asked the exact same question...with the exact same answer...sigh.

There are a couple people on that forum that agree with him. R Dale comes to mind. For what ever reason they seem to look down on anybody who wants to upload data. I don't understand the attitude. Who cares what we do with the data.
I once asked for an ftp option in GR2. Some one came back and asked "why, to upload screen shots".  Rolling Eyes

I happened to learn about this on Twitter when someone I follow retweeted a message from someone else. However I didn't get a tweet from AllisonHouse on this one.

Sooner or later, this issue will be resolved by someone who understands that a programmer works for the client.

I don't understand why they're so negative toward the uploads. I understand FTP can sometimes be a PITA, but it's a normal function for most any weather based software. And you know what, he could take care of his ftp concern by writing the images locally and letting me use Fling to do the upload. Just let me START the publishing process automatically.

Unfortunately it's a common malady among programmers for some reason.

Autostart would be my number one priority also.

I'd settle for on restart, being at the same zoom level as before.

Thought maybe I was the only one that had issues with a couple of "Moderators" on the Forum.

I love the software and it wasn't FREE but a couple of those guys can be down right condescending and in my words "hateful" if you ask a question. I just stopped posting. I guess if you aren't a Meteorologist then you aren't entitled to ask a question??? Question

I use a great free program called AUTOIT to automatically start everything in GRLEVEL3. A script is built to open GRLEVEL3, maximize the window, rename the window (I run 3 instances), center the radar exactly where I want it, then start the FTP process. The script can then be saved as an EXE, so it gets started automatically when Windows comes up. Once the script is done, no human intervention is required. Smile

I don't understand why they're so negative toward the uploads.

Because that's not what it was designed for.  I get the impression that uploading anything was an afterthought and more intended for sharing examples between GR users as a tutorial of sorts.  Remember, GR3 was not intended as a commercial project for uploading and broadcasting images to the general public.  It really was intended more for Mets and the Public Safety field or business users who have assets to protect.  The whole hobbyist angle came in later and I'm not sure he was too wild about that.

Oh, and there are no Moderators over there that I know of.

Well they DID design it in there. And they opened Pandora's Box...... I agree.. I don't understand the negative attitude......
