Glad you guys are happy...Quick question: How much in additioon expense does it take to put the davis VP2 online to upload to Weather Underground or a personal webpage? Thanks,

Steve, at a minimum, you need a Weatherlink logger.  The serial or USB versions cost about $109-120 and the IP version costs about $185-195.  With the accompanying "free" software, you can up load to WU or your web site if you have a computer running 24/7. The IP version can also handle the uploads without the computer, but at a lower upload frequency.

You can get fancier with other weather software and/or a miniLinux computer to cut energy use, but, of course, these options cost more.

People always talk about the weather, but they never do anything about it.  Not me.  I'm gonna measure it.  www.tceweather.com

Does not have to be 24/7 - you can do periodic uploads to your own page whenever you like.  I upload twice a day sicne I'm currently on dial-up (soon to be WiMax).  Once I get high speed I will  go 100% live.  But right now it works well.  I use a timer on the Netbook to wake it up on a schedule to upload.

Steve, basically it costs you nothing to upload your weather data to Weather Underground or APRS/CWOP (NOAA). The only things needed are an always-on broadband internet connection and leave a computer with a suitable software program running 24/7.
If you want to have a personal weather website then you need to purchase a domain name and hire a web hosting company, ie: 1&1, GoDaddy, etc.

Some Internet service providers allocate personal web space to their subscribers but that may or may not work for a live weather site.

I have three stations on one computer uploading to WU, Weatherforyou, and CWOP using dialup.  It's just a few 0's and 1's every few seconds.
