SKY1's are cheap. Pay less, get less?
« on: September 20, 2017, 04:09:24 PM »
SKY1's are cheap on line.  I'd like to get one for each of my children for their homes as gifts and maybe one for my high school.  Are they really hard to set up?  Are they less reliable than the SKY2?

I have an original Bloomsky (Sky 1) from when they were doing the introduction of the unit. My first unit lasted 60 days (Feb.-Apr. 2016). They sent me a new unit after returning the first one to them at no cost. That unit is still running, BUT, the temp/humdity sensors work when they want to, and mostly they are incorrect. I use the camera to check the weather at home with the App. I would question their long-term reliability based on my experience.

As for setting one up. It is pretty straight forward.

For $56 each I'll take a chance.  The real star of the Sky is the camera and daily videos.  If I get temp data from my kids homes for a while too so much the better.

Excellent price, especially considering it includes the solar panel.  I think I'll order one to replace my first SKY1 without a solar panel.

My SKY1 was replaced once because the camera was acting weird with crazy colors.  Other than that, it's worked pretty well.

So the Sky1 you have now, do you leave it plugged into an AC electrical outlet?

Yes.  It's worked well that way, except when someone unplugs it.

I got a Bloomsky with solar panel from Amazon Market place for $130 which was $100 less than the Bloomsky site.

Well the best news is I bought 4 Bloomsky's for Christmas gifts at $57 each.  I assumed they were Sky1's since they didn't list any Sky2 features in the Amazon description.  Imagine my surprise when the boxes were opened Christmas morning and everyone got a Sky2!
