Rain Year and Yearly Rain values - question
« on: September 18, 2008, 12:57:52 AM »
I'm sure these items are covered somewhere in either the VWS or the Davis VP2 manuals but I can't seem to find it.
  • 1- Rain Year - What is the common value to use? My VP2/VWS seem to default to Jan - Dec but NWS seems to use Jul - Jun in the Western states.
  • 2- How do I change from Jan - Dec to Jul - Jun?
  • 3- If I change the Rain Year values how do I change the "Yearly Rain" value displayed?

If you're using Weatherlink you can change as follows:

Setup -> Set Yearly Rain

You can manually change the starting month and cummulative value displayed.

Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus - 24hr-FARS
Weatherlink 5.9.2 beta
CWOP: CW5885
WU: KNJFAIRL3
Northeastern Weather Network

Interesting, I never thought about WeatherLink controlling the Yearly Rain values. Sure enough, I changed the setup values and magically, my data changed. My VP2 now shows 0.04 for Yearly Rain (as it should) as do the values I see in VWS. I also found the VP2 console setting for Rain Season Begins and changed that to "Jul 1". I guessing that next July 1st the console values will automatically zero out and start over again for the new year.

Thanks for the pointer!

I am using July to June as my rain year because that is what the VWS manual suggested.  It automatically zeroed out on July 1st.  I appear to be the only one that is not using the calendar year in this area including the government and would like to change to the calendar basis.  My question is...If I change now will it recalculate the previous year? If it creates a problem will I be able to change it back?

The only thing I had to do was to manually enter in my rain totals for the months of June through the current date. In my case we have only had 0.04" of rain since July 1st so it was really easy to figure.

The value is entered in via WeatherLink under Settings | Yearly Rain. All of my NOAA reports, VWS displays and VP2 console displays correctly show a value of 0.04" for my Yearly Rainfall.

I had been wanting to make this change for a long time but kept putting it off because I thought it would be a lot more difficult than it apparently is.

Hi all,
I have a a VP2 and I need to clear all my rain fall, I was reading .01 in the yearly and .01 in the monthly. (this is a false reading). I cleared the yearly, however how do I clear the monthly?

Thanks
Brad

Brad
Set Up.
Scroll down to clear.
Check monthly under rain.
