hardwired FARS?
« on: January 19, 2008, 06:09:04 PM »
Hi,

STILL haven't bought my VP2 yet, but I'm wondering if theres a way to convert a Daytime FARS kit into a 24 hour FARS by hardwiring it and connecting it to an electrical supply. Would this work? What would have to be done to acheive this?

If you haven't bought the unit yet, why would you want to do this? Just buy the VP with a 24 hour FARS and be done with it. Why try to Mickey Mouse something together when you can already get it factory installed.

Because I was going to get the cabled version, and Davis won't sell the 24-hour kit.

The underlying question is, "Why do you think you need a FARS?"

I bought the cabled VP2 and after a year I added the daytime FARS. I ran a wire from the fan to my house and went to Radio Shack and got a 4 volt power supply. Plugged It in and I now have a 24 hour FARS. It has been running since last november. Here in New Hampshire I do not think the 24 hour FARS that Davis sells would last the winter as we do not get enough sun to Solar panel to power up the fan for very long OR to charge the batterys. I tried to make my own solar powered unit out of the daytime FARS but the cold weather beats the heck out of the batterys
