Got my Canon VB-C50i running!
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:55:59 PM »
I've just about completed my site move from Meeker, CO to Delta, CO.  The main thing left is my lightning detector.

Tonight I got one of my first good shots at the nearby mountains with my Canon.  The photo was taken using the snapshot feature of the online PTZ applet.  It was pointed using the preset for the West Elks mountains, which uses about 70% of the zoom.  The mountians are located about 30 miles east.

Beautiful camera shot there Rick!  You must be up on some high ground to get viability that far.  Do you have the camera up a ways on a tower?

No, my house is on the edge of California Mesa, a high spot just a mile outside of Delta.  The cam is mounted on my back porch which sits about 10' above ground, but the land drops away at the edge of my property.

The first pic is the exact same position as the original, but with the zoom decreased to show how the Mesa drops off from my back yard.

The pic below is the same as the one above, but with the exposure compensation turned off so you can see the mountains in the distance.

That zoom really works well!

That's also one spot you don't want to plant any trees.
