WH31/31-EP as a grass minimum thermometer - would it work?

I am just trying to think of ideas on how to record the grass minimum temperature since we are starting to come into the months where ground frosts & frosts start to become more frequent.

I was thinking of an idea of clipping a WH31 or WH31-EP 2 inches above the ground so it is still in the grass slightly & then putting a grass jar over it. I'm not entirely sure if it'd work or not.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe just use a water temp sensor when there available. Long flexible waterproof probe. You could house the electronics under a plastic box.

I'll see when the water temp probe comes out & maybe mount it just above the grass & see how it fairs.
