A Message to all registered members of CWOP,

CWOP has grown far beyond the original expectations.  This unexpected
growth has placed stress on the capability of the available internet
resources.  To remove that stress, we need to move some of our data
contributors to a different set of internet servers.  The necessary
details for this move are given below and are also linked under "APRS
Servers to Use" in the upper right of the main pages on the CWOP web
site, www.cwop.net.

1. What server should I use if my CWOP ID is CWxxxx or DWxxxx?

- Use a server designator of "cwop.aprs.net" to send to the servers
designated for CWOP use only.

2. What server should I use if my CWOP ID is APxxx, ARxxx, ASxxx or
ATxxx?

- Use a server designator of "rotate.aprs.net" or
"rotatewx.aprs2.net" to send to the Core servers or the Tier 2
servers.

3. How can I check which servers I'm using?

- Use the CWOP Search Tool at http://www.wxqa.com/search.htm to see
the last packet you have sent over each of the past 10 days. If you
see "FIRST" or "CORE-2" or "THIRD", you were using one or more of
the core servers.  If you see any name with "T2", you were using
one or more of the Tier 2 servers.  If you see "CWOP-1" or "CWOP-2"
or "CWOP-3", you were using one or more of the servers designated
for CWOP use.

4. What port should I use?

- Use port 14580, but if that does not work try port 23.

5. How often should I send a data packet?

- Every 9 minutes or LESS often, i.e. 10 minutes, 11 minutes,.....etc.

6. Any special considerations?

- Avoid always sending at multiples of 5 minutes from the top of the
hour.

Any changes to the CWOP recommendations will be posted to the CWOP
news page which is linked from the upper left of the main CWOP web
pages.  If you have any questions, let us know by sending them to
russ at wxqa dot com and/or dave at wxqa dot info.

Thanks again for contributing your data!

Russ
