My station as never seen before.
« on: September 10, 2015, 11:11:26 PM »
Been adding new toys to my collection. My station looks like a wind sculpture.

Don (Blizzardof78) sold me a Downeaster wind speed and barometer. Spent today hooking it up. It's a great instrument. It's fun to watch the needle move. The gauge is a beauty.

Last week on eBay I bought a Digitar Weather Pro. What we know today as Davis Instruments. This is where our Pro2's and Vue's started in the late 80's to early 90's.

Not new, but I bought a Vector A100L2 on eBay back in April. Hooked it up to a Tradewinds gauge and a 5V power supply.

Next week I'm receiving the Heath Kit display. Going to make it a mission to find sensors as rare as they may be.

As fall is fast approaching, I'm looking forward to watching the instruments.

LOL, you´re the "windman" :D

It would be interesting to actually compare the measurements of the sensors between each other in long-term to see the real accuracy.

Thanks guys. And a special thanks to my HOA for letting me do this.

I do average them. It's fun to compare. As fun as getting a new toy. :) this week I'm going to hit the antique stores downtown looking for items like barometers, thermometers, Weather vanes.

Eventually I'm wanting to get into being a dealer for Maximum, Cape Cod, and Downeaster. The Dallas/Fort Worth area doesn't really have weather dealers besides TWI which is a manufacturer.

Thanks guys.

My anemometer mast is becoming an anemometer tree. Lol. Like a little miniature version of Davis's roof deck. :D

Put the LaCrosse anemometer up here mounted on the Vector anemometer mast to the left.

Read my mind. Thinking about doing that. I have some Electroluminescent wires and strip I bought from Spark Fun several years ago. I need to locate the inverter. Trying to come up with an idea.

Thanks.

You need a flashing red light at the top just like on antenna towers to warn low flying aircraft...... :)

Got that covered. Lol.

I call it a red eye beacon. Doesn't flash though.

You know there are self help groups for people like us - something about steps...   :-)
The red lights on top just absolutely make that mast perfect - I am so entirely jealous!

Thanks guys. In my opinion every weather station needs red lights. I can't imagine my station without them. Lol.

I added a variable adapter to change the brightness. My red lights can be seen from half a mile away. Hehe.

This is really cool. Now the question I have is which brand do you think gives the most accurate wind measurements? :) Did you put the Tycon Power up there too?

They all seem accurate. The Tycon and discontinued LaCrosse are accurate and track closely with the Davis/NRG.

The Tycon is their newer unit with the light and UV sensors. In the units W/m2 it follows closely with the Davis solar sensors.

The NRG sensors on the top are the most accurate. They compare with airport winds. Of course the NRG sensors are highest.
