Digitar and Davis parts
« on: May 15, 2010, 03:17:28 PM »
Will the Davis anemometer cups work on the old Digitar Weather Pro?  I have had the Digitar for 20 years and she finally threw the cups this past winter. I saw where Davis makes a couple different sets of cups and was going to order, but decided to ask the experts first.

TIA,

Steve

See thread http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=1944.15

I believe d_i indicated he once had one and their address was the same as Davis' now. Probably a call or email to Davis customer service would be the best thing.

I had a Digitar and left the wind unit up as a backup when I moved to a Weather Monitor 2 and then a VP2. That thing lasted far longer than my first WM2 anemometer/wind vane. It'll work. You just need to figure out the wiring. As I recall, the Digitar used 2, 3 conductor audio style cables.

Heck I think I still have that around here somewhere...

20 years. I can't see my Vue lasting that long, if it does it will outlive me.

SLOweather, I think he just wanted to use the Davis cups. Sound like they would work, but which size?

Received answer from Davis Support today:
From: "Tom Raymond" <tomr@davisnet.com>

Yes the 7903S wind cups will work with the Digitar stations.

Just be careful to order the 7903 part (vertical magnet) and not 7905 (the more recent horizontal magnet part). 7905 won't work reliably.

But it shouldn't make any real difference whether you get 7903S or 7903L - AFAIK the two parts are equivalent aerodynamically and 7903L (larger cups) is possibly easier to source.
