Eyes on the sky
« on: December 30, 2012, 04:19:20 PM »
I am very much looking forward to this:

A comet blazing toward Earth could outshine the full moon when it passes by at the end of next year - if it survives its close encounter with the sun.
    ...
As the comet approaches, heat from the sun will vaporize ices in its body, creating what could be a spectacular tail that is visible in Earth's night sky without telescopes or even binoculars from about October 2013 through January 2014.

Ditto here. If it stays together there should be some great photo opportunities.

I hope it gives us a show!  (Were the Mayans perhaps a year late with their prediction?)

I thought of that too.

Maybe it was all the leap days they missed.

perhaps we can tell the kids it is the Mayan's coming for revenge.

I had thought of it for a moment and then dispensed with it,  sending an email to all my students "Sorry the Mayan Disaster didn't happen, you still have to turn in the Des Moines River Watershed project, take the unit test and the final exam,  sorry..."
